AfterElton Briefs: Craig returns to "Hollyoaks", The Transgendered Day of Remembrance, and more!

Jorn Weisbrodt and Rufus Wainwright bundle up to visit the NYC Museum of Modern Art (GETTY)

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Theater director Jorn Weisbrodt and his celebrity boyfriend, singer Rufus Wainwright, braved the unseasonably cold weather last night to attend the opening of "Pour Your Body Out", a multimedia installation by artist Pipilotti Rist at the NYC Museum of Modern Art. A "multimedia installation"? Isn't that what Carrie's Russian boyfriend did on Sex & the City? And no one could quite figure out what it meant?
  • True Blood star Ryan Kwanten has given an interview to POPWRAP in which he talks about working with out producer Alan Ball and all the nude scenes he's been required to do: "But I am putting myself in Mr. Ball's careful hands so it's never just nudity for nudity's sake - it always comes from a strong story point."
  • A documentary to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the first World AIDS Day has been commissioned by BBC Radio 2. How AIDS Changed America will be presented by actor Paul Michael Glaser (who lost both his wife and daughter to an AIDS-related illness) and will air on BBC Radio 2 on December 2nd. The doc will combine archival footage and new interviews and "look back at nearly three decades of pain, prejudice and progress in the American peoples' struggle with the virus."

Niall delivers a crippling blow to Craig on Hollyoaks Later.

  • Good news for Holllyoaks fans. The much anticipated return of the evil Niall (Barry Sloane) will occur November 24th on the late night spin-off Hollyoaks Later. He's set to do battle with the gay character of Craig (Guy Burnet), who's returning for this special showdown. The last time we saw Craig he was riding off into the sunset with boyfriend John Paul.
  • And finally, today is the tenth annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. It was founded ten years ago to honor Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was murdered November 28, 1998. The annual event is designed to raise public awareness of anti-transgender hate crimes and to encourage people to be allies to the transgender community. To mark the occasion, GLAAD is premiering a new PSA starring transgender actress Candis Cayne.

The Sexiest Men Undead: Ten of entertainment's hottest vampires

With the hottie vampires of Twilight hitting the multiplexes this weekend, it's been hard not to think about the various other sexy vampires in the pop culture landscape. And what with various pubs running their annual "Sexiest Men Alive" lists, why not discuss the sexiest undead men?

Vampires are usually depicted as very sexual creatures, what with the constant carnal cravings and intense stares and such. There's quite a number to choose from. Amid the feast, here are ten sexy vampires we can all sink our teeth into.

Frank Langella
in Dracula (1979)

I first saw this take on Dracula in one of my high school writing classes, where we discussed how the movie brought a new vision of the vampire to the cinema. Instead of a cadaverous monstrosity, Langella's Dracula was charming and seductive like a nobleman. By then, the potential sex appeal of the vampire was getting to be well-known, but even then it was clear how Langella helped moved vampires in that direction.

Jonathan Frid and Ben Cross
in Dark Shadows

While Langhella's Dracula brought the sexy vampire to the big screen, it was Barnabas Collins who first got hearts fluttering on the camptastic soap opera Dark Shadows. Barnabas was a lonely soul, separated by the ages from his true love, a quality that resonated with fans. While Ben Cross (who played Barnabas in the 90's revival of the series) is more my type than Jonathan Frid (who created the role) we might not be talking about sexy vampires if Barnabas hadn't gotten us thinking about them as romantic creatures.

Kiefer Sutherland
in The Lost Boys

While I was in ... uhm, the target demographic at the time, I never joined in on the Corey/Corey mania of the 80s. Instead, The Lost Boys was all about the hotness of Kiefer Sutherland's moody bad boy vampire for me. That crush seems apt considering that The Lost Boys was the movie that got me to realize that buying tickets for 'R' rated movies as a kid wasn't as hard as I expected.

Blood Work "True Blood" video blog 11: Sometimes, dead is better.

Pardon my reference to the 90's nonclassic horror movie Pet Sematary, but in this week's Blood Work (much like the True Blood episode that inspired it) we learn that sometimes it's best to leave dead enough alone.

Yes, much like babyvamp Jessica, Andy has returned from the grave ... with a few noticeable differences. Join us as we discuss the penultimate episode of the ever-wacky vampire series, complete with mysterious social workers, a fresh corpse, and a big reveal months in the making.

Check it out after the break!

"True Blood" (1.11) recaplet: To Love is to Bury

Sookie and Sam grow closer, Bill is a new daddy, Tara meets the freaky pig lady again (sans pig), Jason runs around in rain-soaked tighty whities ... and we learn the identity of the killer, who strikes again!

It's the next-to-last episode of True Blood and you can see all the craziness after the break!

Blood Work "True Blood" video blog Ep. 10: I go through more boyfriends that way...

Inspired by Eddie, Jason and Amy's twisted little game of "vampire house", Andy and I decided this week to tie Andy to a lawnchair to discuss Episode 10 of True Blood.

Um ... it didn't go so well.

In lighter news, we were delighted to learn that this week the folks at HBO have made Blood Work the featured item on the show's official fan page. We're thrilled to be spreading our foul gospel to more fans of the show, and even more thrilled at the special presents they were kind enough to send us ... which we'll be featuring next week. If you run into any new folks in the darkened hallways of the comments section, do give them a friendly AfterElton welcome!

Check it out after the break!

"True Blood" (1.10) recaplet: I Don't Wanna Know

Bill goes before The Legion of Doom, Tara tries to purge the devil inside, Jason has his hands full with Eddie, and Sookie learns why Sam is always trying to lick himself. Because he can! See it all after the break!

The Week in Gay Geek: Will Bryan Fuller be NBC's hero?

This week:

  • Will a gay writer save NBC's Heroes?
  • Catch up on 30 days of good LGBT comics this November.
  • Is YAOI publisher DramaQueen making a comeback?
  • Which Legion character is making a surprise appearance?
  • Are True Blood's vampires a bad analogy?

Blood Work "True Blood" video blog Ep 9: We're here, we're were-cats, get used to it!

In honor of a Very Big Thing happening in last Sunday's episode of True Blood, Andy and I decided to record this week's Blood Work vlog in our true form.

Yes, we're cats.

But tails, short attention spans and squishy-soft bellies don't get in the way of our recapping this week's wonderfully wacky episode in all its bloody glory ... check it all out, after the break!

"True Blood" (1.09) recaplet: Plaisir D'Amour

At the end of last week's episode of True Blood, Sookie found herself on the receiving end of some unwanted vampire attention when bartender LongShadow attacked her for discovering the truth about his sticky fingers.

Will Bill break the ultimate vampire code to save her? And what about Eddie, the suburban vampire kidnapped by Jason and the increasingly monstrous Amy? Will he live long enough to watch the next episode of Heroes? And does Tara really have a demon inside her or is it just PMS? And will the women who read this ever forgive me for that last line?

These questions, and many others will be answered ... after the break!

Battle of the Network Gays! for October 31st

Every Friday we pick the gays in television who have had the best weeks, and leave it to you, the keepers of the flame, to decide who will be crowned Gay of the Week and enjoy the crown and their own fancy button over on the left. We'll announce the winner on Monday, and that champ will reign until a new set of challengers are introduced the following Friday to try to steal his title.

For the past week, As the World Turns' plucky gay virgin Luke Snyder has been enjoying the crown ... but today three new players arise to challenge him.

Meet them and make your choice, after the break!
