Halloween

Happy Halloween from AfterElton.com!

Whether you're heading out to a parade, cuddling up with your boo for a scary movie or chasing rugrats off your porch, we hope you have a fantastic Halloween. Here's a roundup of ghoulish goodies to get you into the holiday spirit...

  • A great video compilation of witch clips from movies and television, set to an Eartha Kitt number. Devilishly catchy.
  • Frank DeCaro rhapsodizes over the fresh-to-DVD headtrip, The Paul Lynde Halloween Special. On today's The View, Whoopi gave copies to the whole studio audience ... and people were worried the show would lose its gay after Rosie left!
  • Televisionista's got some great pics and a preview video for this coming Sunday's Halloween episode of Desperate Housewives, which looks to be a real scream.
  • Our galpals over at AfterEllen.com did a rundown of some great scream queens who became A-listers. Yay Jamie Lee!
  • And don't forget to check out our Skeletons in the Closet article, which looks at the bloody horror movie pasts of some of our favorite celebs, as well as our Queers for Fears Halloween movie video blog!

  • Dangerous Muse wishes everyday was Halloween

Electro-pop duo and former Advocate coverboys Dangerous Muse have gotten into the holiday spirit with their new single, a cover of Ministry's "Everyday Is Halloween," released today.

Originally due for release a week ago, the track was delayed due to a "minor complication" between Warner Music and iTunes. It's a shame, as the song surely would have been a huge hit in the clubs this Halloween weekend. The track is a lot of fun and I love lead singer Mike Furey's vocals: sometimes growly, sometimes breathy, but always incredibly sexy. I've got to say, I prefer his voice over Al Jourgensen's in the original.

But as good as the single is, the "Josh Harris Club Mix" (which you can preview over on the group's Myspace page) is even better. Adding in some throbbing techno beats, the remix is pretty irresistible.

As a bonus, I've included the oddly endearing YouTube video of Dangerous Muse carving (with varying degrees of success) the pumpkins that were going to appear on the cover of the remix album.

To Make a Long Story Short ... Ann Coulter eats gay food, Brideshead is revisited, and more!

    • That's apparently Neil Patrick Harris under all that clownery. As though I needed reason to love him any more than I already do...
    • Gay horror legend Clive Barker has a new video game, Jericho, coming out for the XBox ... and the homophobes aren't happy about it, even though there's nothing gay about it in the least.
    • A historian on the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade shares his thoughts on how the gays have been instrumental in making the holiday more than tricks and treats in this radio interview.

    • Brothers & Sisters' gay exec producer Greg Berlanti is signed on to a Green Lantern movie. Break out the tights!
    • Early images and art for the new film adaptation of the gay-but-not-gay classic, Brideshead Revisited.

Queers for Fears: Halloween horror movie video blog

That's right, folks: I, too, have hopped aboard the videoblogging bandwagon (although it's more of a haunted hayride in this case) for a Halloween horror movie special.

In this Queers for Fears spooktacular, my boyfriend Andy and I highlight a few fun horror flicks that have special places in the hearts and gizzards of gay fans and celebrate the upcoming holiday in the most traditional of fashions: by making total asses of ourselves.

Enjoy the bloody good time after the jump!

Humiliating horror movie pasts of some gay and gay-fave actors.

    Tw Gay Guys: Halloween Edition

In this special Halloween edition, Brent and Michael's parade of trick-or-treaters is interrupted by terrifying anti-gay stereotypes perpetuated by the traditional media. They have to fend off closeted, homophobic politicians, gay serial killers, and pedophile priests! Can they survive the onslaught? Watch now!

  • Sneak Peek at The Advocate's Halloween issue

Good morning, folks. I found this delicious image in my inbox this morning and had to share it with you: it's the cover for the new issue of The Advocate, which asks if the gayest holiday around has been hijacked by fratboys and gang-bangers. The issue also includes an interview with out Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller, a piece on riding out the financial doldrums, and much more ... and it's coming your way October 23rd.

Halloween is my favorite holiday of all by far, but even I haven't been to the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade in a decade and this year am going to a Guitar Hero party, which is just about the straightest Halloween event I've ever heard of. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

What do you folks think? Has Halloween lost its fairy magic?
