Watch the NewNowNext Awards right now!

Are you feeling blue because we've been telling you all about that brand spankin' new award show — the NewNowNext Awards — that aired tonight on Logo (AfterElton.com's parent company) with appearances by Janet Jackson, Christian Siriano, Patrik-Ian Polk, Cyndi Lauper and Caroline Rhea, but that you couldn't watch because you don't have Logo?

Well, we have just the thing for you! The award show itself! That Flying Monkeys were hard at work loading the show into our AfterElton.com player and you can watch the whole thing right now. How cool is that!

You can see who won the "Best Show You're Not Watching" award (Torchwood! Torchwood!), the "Most Guiltiest Pleasure" award (Dante's Cove or Janice Dickinson's Modeling Agency? Hmmm....), the "Cause You're Hot" award (Cheyenne! No, Jensen! No Cheyenne! Arrgghh.....) and the "Best Future Release" award (Breakfast with Scot!)

Clockwise upper left corner: Andre J, Christian Siriano, Jensen Atwood, Cheyenne Jackson, Ronniw Kroell, John Barrowman

Also announced during the show was the winner of our very own category — the Best Gay Kiss! And the winner was...well, you'll have to watch to find out. Check back on Monday for a special post just about that! (And, yes, I promise next year we'll have an Ollian kiss. Heck, the way you all flogged me, I'll make them all Ollian kisses!)

And for those of you dying for some news about Noah's Arc, I can tell you the award show had the first trailer for the movie! So you have a ton of reasons to watch. The clips start after the jump!

"RuPaul's Drag Race" looks to crown the next superstar drag queen

We've been seeing quite a few variations on the talent-based reality competition show lately. Bravo has translated the Project Runway formula to cooking, decorating, hair styling, modeling and dance. Animal Planet has ventured into the genre with Groomer Has It, and this fall The CW will introduce Stylista, where people will compete for the chance to be a fierce fashion magazine editor like Alexis Meade.

As the genre clearly isn't gay enough already, RuPaul is getting into the mix with an upcoming series on Logo (AfterElton's parent company) called RuPaul's Drag Race, which hopes to crown the next superstar drag queen. Ru will appear in and out of drag in the show, playing the dual role of mentor (out of drag) and as the supreme authority in all judging (in drag). That already sounds pretty inspired.

Auditions are being held online at RuPaul'sDragRace.com where hopefuls can upload videos, blog posts and photos and visitors can vote for their favorite. The online voting will eventually determine the finalists who will be on the show. Do you think you or somebody you know has what it takes?

RuPaul certainly doesn't mince words in this throwdown quote:

"Tell Tyra that the Queen has returned, and while you're at it have Heidi clear the runway. I'm going to pump some 'realness' into reality. To be a winner on this show the contestants need to be a fashion designer, an American Idol, and a top model all rolled up into one. And they definitely have to be smarter than a fifth grader."

It's been too long since we last had Ru on TV with The RuPaul Show on VH-1, hasn't it?

Even better this comes from the fabulous World of Wonder guys who gave us the likes of The Eyes of Tammy Faye (which was narrated by RuPaul), Tori and Dean: Inn Love and Transamerican Love Story. They delivered a massive disappointment with the unpunished homophobia on Viva Hollywood!, so here's hoping RuPaul's Drag Race makes us forget that blemish on their history.

The series is expected to hit the airwaves early next year.

"Go Dragons!" A gay rugby documentary series comes to LOGOonline

Rugby has long had a reputation as one of the most physically demanding (not to mention dangerous) sports, but unlike American football (where the players wear sissy stuff like padding), there have been small but notable steps taken when it comes to gay inclusion. Australian rugby player Ian Roberts came out, spoke about how disappointed he is that there are not more openly gay players, and even appeared in Superman Returns. And then of course there is the very gay-friendly UK rugby star, Ben Cohen, who has gained attention for embracing his gay fanbase.

LOGOonline is premiering a 4-part documentary series about one season in the life of a predominantly gay rugby team, the Chicago Dragons, who are playing in a straight league. Their goal for their second season is to ... well, to win a game ... and it's a hilarious and enlightening look into machismo, self-doubt, and teamwork.

My favorite is part three, where they head south to face the Atlanta Bucks, and some interesting self-hatred comes out when they admit to being terrified of losing to "another gay team". During the visit, we're treated to the curious sight of two opposing sports teams having a pre-match party, and after the goodie-bags of condoms and lube, the question of whether it's appropriate for adversaries to hook up.

Will the Dragons win a game? Will the two team mascots get it on after downing jello shots? Tune in and see! We've posted the first episode after the jump for your viewing pleasure, or head on over the Dragons' website to learn more, and maybe sign up for the bachelor auction coming up next month.

Click on through for the first episode! (And yes, Logo does own AfterElton.com, but that doesn't make gay rugby players any less compelling, we promise!)

2nd Annual True Colors Tour: B-52's, Carson Kressley, Regina Spektor and more

The dates and lineup for True Colors '08 have been announced. For the full list of dates, visit the official website, but here's the jist of it from the press release...

"The True Colors Tour will hit the road again this summer with an exciting new line-up of legendary and up and coming artists including headliners Cyndi Lauper, The B-52s, Rosie O’Donnell with host Carson Kressley and many more. After receiving rave reviews and a successful debut in 2007, the True Colors Tour is expanding to meet demand in many more cities. The tour will kick off Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month on May 31st at Boston’s Bank of America Pavilion. Produced by True Colors Concerts in partnership once again with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the 24 city North American tour is presented by Logo in support of the newly created True Colors Fund of Stonewall Community Foundation. The concerts feature nearly five hours of nonstop music with exciting special guests appearing on select dates throughout the tour including Wanda Sykes, Tegan and Sara, Regina Spektor, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Joan Armatrading, Indigo Girls, Nona Hendryx, Deborah Cox and The Cliks."

Needless to say, exciting lineup for an exciting event, and great news that the tour is being expanded to reach more cities. We'll be all over this one (and not just because Logo is AfterElton.com's parent company, we swear!).

  • It's official: The Noah's Arc movie is on its way

A little bird who nests at Logo (AfterElton's parent company) just gave us word that the gay network has officially greenlit a movie based on the fan-favorite gay show Noah's Arc, which told the story of a group of gay African-American friends navigating life and love in the city. Despite being a groundbreaking show for visibility of gay men (and further, gay men of color), the show was canceled after two seasons, leaving its fans unsure of what happened with the boys. Looks like we're going to find out!

The film's working title is Noah's Arc: Jumping the Broom (I guess a shark was too dangerous?) and we're told it is a wedding-themed film (they won't tell us whose wedding...) that will pick up where the series left off at the cliffhanger season finale. Production begins in March and newly-out lead Darryl Stephens (Noah), Doug Spearman (Chance), Rodney Chester (Alex) and Christian Vincent (Ricky) are set to return, with other casting to be announced soon.

Series creator Patrik-Ian Polk had this to say about the announcement:

"I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to take this cult hit TV show to the big screen. With the exception of the many 70's hit shows to get the film treatment, very few television series get to make the move to movie theatres. It's a bold experiment, but I've come to expect nothing less from the MTV Networks/Logo brand. And I look forward to continuing the funny and dramatic sagas of Noah and his friends as we pick up where we left off in the dramatic second season cliffhanger. It's been a little wait for the fans, but I promise they won't be disappointed. 'Jumping The Broom' definitely takes this story to the next level in a big way.”

Logo President Brian Graden had this to say:

"We're proud that our first flagship series will now be Logo's first original movie. Logo and the show’s fans have been with Noah and his friends from the beginning and we're excited to see that Patrik-Ian Polk will be continuing their stories on the big screen."

But that's not all: Polk and Stephens also wanted to deliver the news in person via a special video message just for AfterElton.com readers. Check it out below!

Stardust, Ugly Betty, AfterElton.com among 19th Annual GLAAD Media Award nominees

Robert De Niro as a gay pirate in Stardust

Yesterday afternoon at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, GLAAD unveiled its nominations for the 2007 GLAAD Media Awards, spanning television, film, journalism, music, theatre, books and more.

You can find the full list of nominees after the jump, but there are a few we'd like to highlight:

In wide release film, only one of the three films nominated, Stardust, had a gay male storyline (we also gave the film a 2007 Visibility Award for wide release film). In limited release film, The Bubble and Dirty Laundry were the gay male noms.

In television, many of our faves are up for awards: Brothers & Sisters, Dirty Sexy Money, Greek, and Degrassi: The Next Generation nabbed drama noms, while Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives, The Sarah Silverman Program and The War at Home earned noms for comedy.

As the World Turns  is nominated for Daytime show, along with All My Children, and standalone episodes of My Name is Earl, Cold Case, Boston Legal, Kyle XY, and Law & Order SVU were singled out for their contributions to LGBT visibility.

We'd also like to thank GLAAD's nominating committee for AfterElton.com's first GLAAD Media Award Nomination, for the article "Gay Newsmen: A Clearer Picture", by James Hillis. We're honored to be among such company as Salon.com, Newsweek.com, BET.com and ESPN.com.

Overall, ABC blew the other networks out of the water with nine total noms (CBS came in a distant second with three), and Logo (who owns AfterElton) leads the cable nets with five noms in the first year that gay media was eligible for nomination.

The awards ceremonies will be held March-May in various cities. Check out the full release after the break or head over to GLAAD's website for more on the awards.

Logo unveils new gay basketball reality show, Rockdogs

Here's some great news for you gay sports fans: Logo has announced a new reality show that follows the San Francisco Rock Dogs, a Gay Games gold-medal-winning basketball team.

The show (Rockdogs is the working title) will follow the 12 gay ballers as they share a roof and work toward getting the team back into shape for a big competition. Considering the show is about gay athletes and also that the team is primarily composed of African-American players, Rockdogs looks to be a much-needed shot in the arm for diversity in gay television.

The show will premiere next summer. In the meantime, check out these shots from the team's 2007 calendar, taken by photographer Nicolas Smith. (Note that the calendar and pictured lineup from 2006 do not necessarily reflect the players that will be on the show.)

Logo also announced a new Bachelorette-style dating show called Transamerican Love Story, in which 12 guys vie for the affections of a trangender woman. The twist? For once, there is none, as all the suitors are aware of the lady's transgender status from the get-go. Wait, you mean they aren't going to use transgender sexuality to scare straight guys on-camera? Say it ain't so!

The show will be hosted by gay comedian Alec Mapa (Ugly Betty) and is produced by the scamps at World of Wonder, who were behind the wonderful Trans Generation series.

    Logo launches new online series

This is odd ... the upper-ups at Logo (AfterElton.com's parent company) sent us these clips and we're not really sure what to make of them other than there's a new project in development at the network and the head of programming apparently looks like the guy from Flipping Out only with no hair.

CBS News on Logo's first half-hour show to feature Waters, Towle, and more

Until now, CBS News on Logo has been quick bite of information that comes in during commercial breaks on gay network Logo (this site's parent company). However, after giving us the Visible Vote presidential forum and a special on gay Latino issues, CBS News on Logo is graduating into full weekly half-hour newsmagazine. The show will continue to be hosted by Jason Bellini with reporting from Itay Hod and Chagmion Antoine.

The program will mix headlines with deeper coverage of current issues like the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and HIV/AIDS. The series will also take a gay look at pop culture. Next week's debut will include an interview with John Waters, a day in the life of blogger Andy Towle and a profile of lesbian favorite folk singer Erin McKeown.

For a network that's been around for only two-and-a-half years, I've been impressed with how much it has grown in that time. There's a good amount of original programming and introducing a show that regularly discusses gay issues will round out Logo's content nicely.
