AfterElton Briefs: "Ugly Betty" wins us over (again) with their new online video, a "Shelter" vet lands his next gig, and more!

Shelter star Trevor Wright (the gay surfing movie is currently available On Demand on here!)

In a continued effort to bring you all that is important in the world of gay entertainment and ensure that you are being spoon-fed images of gorgeous, commoditized manflesh, we present the newly-minted AfterElton Briefs. Following the usual assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Attention Shelter-lovers! Cutiepie lead actor Trevor Wright has been cast as the lead in thriller Vacancy 2. I'm thinking it will be kind of like Vacancy 1, only with cheaper actors. (Sorry, but Trevor ain't Luke Wilson!)
  • Canadian ultimate fighter Kalib Starnes lost badly to competitor Nate Quarry over the weekend, and stooped to calling him a "faggot" after the fight was over, which of course aired nationally and is now preserved online (warning, several uses of the "other F word" also featured) for perpetuity. In case you're keeping score, the guy who WON is the "faggot". (t/y Stephanie for the tip!)
  • Last week we applauded Melbourne television anchor Peter Hitchener for choosing to come out as a gay man for no apparent reason. Well, now it's being alleged that he was blackmailed into coming out by the paper that nabbed the "exclusive". We still applaud Hitchener. The Sunday Herald Sun? Not so much.
Ugly Betty's fab three (Becki Newton, Michael Urie, David Blue)

  • The first Official Ugly Betty Podcast (vlog, dahlings - podcast is SO 2006...) is pretty much the awesomest thing I've seen all month, thanks mostly to the Continued Genius of Becki Newton and the moment where Michael Urie squeezes David Blue's moob.

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

Ugly Betty's David Blue has a footlong with your name on it

The WGA strike has another casualty, people: faced with no screen time and dwindling episodes in which to celebrate his budding love with Marc St. James, Cliff from Ugly Betty (David Blue) has turned to working at a fast-food restaurant. See what happens when mom and dad fight? Adorably shlubby gay boyfriends get stuck selling value meals!

All kidding aside, it's great to see Blue (whom we interviewed a few months back and who is an absolutel darling) doing anything, anywhere, on our TV screens, be it a commercial for Subway, a QVC hand-modeling gig, or whatever. And hey, remember Amanda's Olive Garden commercial from a while back? Next thing you know Vanessa Williams will be doing ads for Sunny D!

Check out David's Subway ad after the jump!

To Make a Long Story Short ... Sedaris takes a mourning flight, Schrader talks The Walker, and more!

  • Not only was recently-AfterEltoned Ugly Betty newbie David Blue robbed of any screentime as Cliff in the latest episode, but he was also robbed of ... well, he was robbed! He's not been hurt, thank heaven, and you can read his firsthand account (secondhand) of the incident.
  • In his new book, The Naked Man: A Study of the Male Body, forward-thinking academic Desmond Morris moves past his previous "lack of male influence" theory and postulates that gay men become gay because they never "break" from other boys in childhood, or had disappointing sexual encounters with women at a young age. Morris's next book apparently hinges on a groundbreaking medical use he has found for leeches.

  • Completing a self-skewering television trifecta (following his previous turns on Little Britain and the upcoming Extras Christmas finale), George Michael plays himself on an upcoming Catherine Tate Christmas special.
  • Paul Schrader talks to gay pub HX about his upcoming gay escort movie The Walker and why star Woody Harrelson won't do interviews about it.
