HomophonicHomophonic video blog (Ep. 7): Novice Theory
Alex joins transgender musician Geo Wyeth, aka Novice Theory, a one-man band that mixes piano, klezmer, accordian, and a melange of musical styles to create a thoroughly unique and utterly captivating experience. Geo talks about his music, about how being trans and biracial has informed his musical journey, and how he comes up with his one-of-a-kind compositions. But the real treat is seeing Novice Theory in action in several clips from his recent performance at NYC's Zipper Theatre and an intimate performance in the studio. Definitely a must-watch. Join Alex and special guest Ron Morris with a look back at Ron's meteoric rise in music — an adventure that started on the road through the American West and soared with a music-video breakthrough thanks to a little megahit called "Boyfriend."
Ron gets a mite introspective while hanging with Alex and Lee, going all the way back to his musically influential grandmother and leaping forward to his much anticipated release, "Truth Stained Lies," premiering June 24th. This week on Homophonic, Alex is joined on his comfy couch by Derek Nicoletto, the out lead singer of the band Telling on Trixie. Twelve short months after their first release, Trixie has amassed thousands of fans, two widely-screened videos (featuring two reality competition fan-faves), and dozens of spots on TV for their music. Just a scant few hours before hopping a plane to the band's next big gig, lead singer Derek takes time out to look back on an amazing year in music. Derek also treats us to a Homophonic Exclusive: a behind-the-scenes commentary of the band's most recent video, "Orion's Light". Check it all out after the break! This week on Homophonic, Alex takes a spa day with queer electro/rock group Naked Highway. Buckle your seat belts in that lowrider, 'cause we've got the world premiere of Naked Highway's newest video, "Shorty the Pimp". So put your headphones on, pop some bubbly, and get Naked! We're excited to be bringing you a new weekly video blog that focuses on the world of out gay musicians. The aptly-titled Homophonic series, brought to you by the Angry Puppy vlog's Lee and his Archy and Mehitabel bandmate Alex, will take you behind the scenes and into the recording studios of some of the freshest queer musicians out there. I'll let Lee tell you what's in store for the maiden voyage... How awesome is this?! Fresh from her first live show in over 3 years, LGBT music goddess Deepa Soul sat down with Alex in our studio last week and dished deep. From her not-so-humble beginnings dancing go-go in San Fran to her epic collaborations with Junior Vasquez, Deepa kept our jaws hanging open with one legendary tale after another. Oh yeah, and as if that weren't enough to keep Alex giggling with glee, Deepa even played a fresher-than-fresh track from her soon-to-drop 3-disc release in our very own studio! Tune in this and every week, all you homophones, for interviews, backstage to-do's, and live performances from the coolest out musicians out there. Check it all out after the break!
