AfterElton Briefs: "Get Smart"'s gay kiss, an apology from Shia (sorta), and more!

Out actor and current Broadway It-Boy Ben Daniels at last night's Theatre World Awards

In a continued effort to bring you all that is important in the world of gay entertainment and ensure that you are being spoon-fed images of gorgeous, commoditized manflesh, we present the newly-minted AfterElton Briefs. Following the usual assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Shia LaBeouf's publicist spoke to E!'s Marc Malkin, expressing regret for the "faggot" video and saying that the actor is "embarrassed" that it was made public. Considering the bulk of the video consists of the clearly drunk underage actor begging to be slapped in the face, I would hope that's an understatement.
  • TV Guide grabbed Neil Patrick Harris and his How I Met Your Mother co-stars for one-on-one video chats this week. Here's Neil's.
  • Forget the Joker dolls, the really ambitious bidder can get a hold of one of Heath Ledger's chairs from the Brokeback Mountain set. (Flannel, tobacco stains, and crushing sense of loss sold separately.)
Out actor B.D. Wong, also at the Theaatre Wold Awards
  • You may have heard that Dwayne Johnson and Steve Carell share a smooch (for laughs, of course) in the upcoming Get Smart movie. You may not have heard that The Rock "smells like strawberry shortcake" or that the actors (both of whom have played gay before) are going out of their way to point out that the kiss was no big deal.

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

AfterElton Briefs: Spilt Milk, Zac Efron and more!

Steve Carell in Little Miss Sunshine

In a continued effort to bring you all that is important in the world of gay entertainment and ensure that you are being spoon-fed images of gorgeous, commoditized manflesh, we present the newly-minted AfterElton Briefs. Following the usual assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Might Steve Carell have played Harvey Milk in Bryan Singer's Mayor of Castro Street, had Gus Van Sant's Milk not beaten them to the punch (starring Sean Penn)? The fat lady ain't sang yet, so we'll see ... but isn't Carell inspired casting? I miss you, Uncle Frank!!
  • Readers of the Louisville Courier-Journal were appalled to see two straight basketball players in what looked like a celebratory kiss in the Sports pages. Fifty bucks says if they'd been WNBA players no one would have complained.
  • John Barrowman loves Ugly Betty and buying home decor at TJ Maxx. Related: John Barrowman is one Chico's shopping spree away from becoming my mom.

Zac Efron in hairspray
  • A gay British actor who played one of the Toombliboos in the hit children's show In the Night Garden is suing the production company (who also created the smash hit Teletubbies) for anti-gay harassment. Tinky Winky is said to be contemplating a class-action suit.
  • And in case you haven't heard, Zac Efron doesn't care what He Who Blogs Behind the Rows says about him, including the gay-baits, noting, "Honestly, if the worst he can say about me is that I’m gay, then I think I’ll be fine. I can handle it."

Tonight's Office HR Marathon

Starting at 8 tonight, NBC will be airing 5 episodes of The Office. (With only one break in the 9:30-10:00pm slot for a new Andy Barker, P.I..) For those folks out there who haven't yet caught on to this show, it is a great opportunity to get acquainted with the series.

The theme that binds these five repeats together is "Human Resources," and the evening will be hosted by actor/writer Paul Lieberstein who plays human resources manager Toby on the show. Presumably, he'll provide short intros to each episode.

According to BuzzSugar.com, which tipped us off to this Office marathon, the block of episodes covers all three seasons, starting with "Diversity Day" and "Health Care" from Season One, then moving onto Season Two with "Sexual Harassment" and "The Injury," and wrapping up at 10:00pm with this season's brilliant opener, "Gay Witch Hunt."

You might recall, "Gay Witch Hunt" was the episode in which the Oscar Nunez character was outed to his co-workers. Here's a clip from that episode. Definitely worth catching tonight.
