"Look Closer" at this Brazilian AIDS awareness poster

Brazil is launching a new AIDS awareness campaign targeting young gay men. According to official data, in the past 12 years there has been a significant increase in the percentage of gay males between the ages of 13 and 24 affected with AIDS. The government is hoping to get the message of safe sex out there with a series of provocative ads, including the one above, which is a take-off on the poster for American Beauty.

This isn't the first time that the Brazilian government has raised eyebrows with safe sex campaigns. In 1995, they caused outrage with a commercial of a man having a condom conversation with a certain part of his anatomy. And in 2002, the same thing happened when they aired a commercial of parents having a heart to heart with their gay son. You can see that commercial after the break.

Second webisode of AIDS prevention soap "In The Moment" is now online

The second episode of the web-only HIV prevention soap opera In The Moment is now online. If you haven't seen this series yet, here's a brief description from the website:

IN THE MOMENT is an online web series that follows the lives of a group of gay guys living in the same apartment complex in West Hollywood, California. Like most of us, they're faced with a huge range of decisions about sex, and the decisions they make impact their lives and the lives of people around them. IN THE MOMENT is also about starting an open, honest conversation among gay guys in the Los Angeles area about these types of decisions.

The new episode is called Disconnected, and like the first episode, features hot guys making some bad decisions. Think of it as a Gay-B-C Afterschool Special, but of course, without Helen Hunt snorting angel dust and trying to fly.

Before you watch the second episode, the first (which features Jesse from America's Most Smartest Model in a rather aggressive role!) is after the jump to get you up to speed ... but warning, it is definitely NSFW!

The AIDS fundraiser is famous for its use of scantily clad men.

Out on DVD for April 3rd

Here are a few of the gay-friendly DVD releases that hit shelves today. "Hit shelves"... isn't that phrase a bit forceful? How about "caress shelves"? "Cuddle shelves"?

3 Needles
While a bit of a meandering muddle, Thom Fitzgerald's earnest and deeply troubling exploration of the global AIDS crisis (told in three stories in three countries) still has an undeniable impact. Perhaps most curious is that the openly bisexual director chose to tell the story of the virus entirely outside of the gay community or "gay experience". Featuring Chloe Sevigny, Olympia Dukakis, Lucy Liu, Sandra Oh, Stockard Channing, and Shawn Ashmore (X-Men). Read our interview with Fitzgerald and Liu for more.

All That Jazz
Bob Fosse wasn't gay (in fact, quite the contrary), but come on -- it's All That Jazz. Roy Scheider ("We're gonna need a bigger boat...") plays Fosse (who directed his own life story -- I bet that was a fun set!), a drug-abusing, womanizing dancer who became one of the most influential forces in the history of musical theater. Jessica Lange and Ann Reinking co-star.

(READ ON for more DVD releases for this week, and some spiffy trailers, too!)
