MTVVideo: MTV's upcoming "Britney: For the Record" documentaryTrue, the travails of one Britney Spears are not a topic that we tend to cover here on AfterElton.com, despite the fact that she is at times literally draped with gay men. But given that some pop-savvy folks have interest in the Cheeto Priestess's comings and goings and that our proximity to MTV (via mothership Viacom) has afforded us the preview for the new documentary on the pop tart, we thought we'd go ahead and share it with If it's up your alley be sure to check out the 90-minute special on MTV airing Sunday, November 30th. I'll admit, I've seen MTV's Total Request Live maybe once (sorry, Viacom overlords! Please don't hurt my cats.). So when it was announced that the show was going bye-bye after 10 years I wasn't terribly bothered; in fact, the thought of actually being able to go to the MTV cafeteria without having to plow through a crowd of teens in front of the building with a lawnmower over my head was kind of appealing. But then I caught wind of this classic TRL moment, which reminded me that the universe was, indeed, for the better thanks to the squealfest: Bruce Willis and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson locked in a staring contest that ends with an unexpected display of bromantic affection. Awwwwww! Check out the clip after the break. Submitted by on Wed, 2008-11-19 13:02. Barack Obama on his opposition to Proposition 8
The Presidential hopeful recently took questions from MTV viewers, one of which asked him to clarify his stance on Proposition 8. As he has said before, he is opposed to gay marriage but does not support Proposition 8, which seeks to change California's state constitution to redefine marriage as between a man and a woman. It's good that he's standing in clear opposition to the bill, but not necessarily the most encouraging way to kick off what is going to be two days of hang-wringing for many of us, huh? Now they've gone...too far. In Hollywood's latest attempt to cannibalize itself until there's nothing left but fingernails and one butt cheek, MTV has announced that they're readying a remake of the cult classic of all cult classics, The Rocky Horror Picture Show:
"The two-hour remake will use the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien but may also include music not featured in the original. Helmer and casting decisions have yet to be announced."
Do they honestly believe they can improve on the original, which was a once in a lifetime alignment of casting, tone, and era?
Yes, i can see it now: in the role of Janet, making her motion picture debut, it's Ali Lohan! And here he comes, to do the timewarp again, in the pivotal role of the sweet transvestite himself, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, it's Zac Efron! Well, there's one way this version might surpass the original: in the joy viewers get from throwing things at the screen. For fans of the original, are you willing to give this remake a chance, or does the whole idea make you want to jump to the left, and step to the right, and out the window? It's pretty cliche to say this, but I miss the MTV of my youth when The Real World starred idealistic people who spent their energies debating issues rather than trying to top each other in terms of drinking, bedhopping and yelling the loudest. With a few exceptions, MTV is now the network that airs shows that I end up hating myself for watching. I know I shouldn't tune in, but sometimes they come up with a concept I can't help but check out. And then I can't stop watching until the whole thing is over. Sadly, I don't think I'll be able to keep myself from checking out their new Brody Jenner-focused series, Bromance. The series will see several guys competing to join Jenner's entourage and fill "the (Spencer) Pratt void". Bormance will mirror reality dating shows in that the reward for doing well in a competition will be a group date or alone time with Jenner. Each episode will have a "Hot Tub Elimination Ceremony" where the rejectees "will be asked to leave the bachelor pad dripping wet in a swimsuit". How can I pass on something like that? On the other hand, with so many homoerotic undertones, a part of me worries that Bromance will play to homophobic humor to re-establish Jenner's manliness. (I've managed to skip all of Jenner's other reality shows, so please fill me in on the likelihood of this happening.) Still, if Bromance includes regular scenes of guys tearfully declaring how they value Jenner's friendship (the same way those trainwreck dating shows have contestants who insist they're totally in love with Tila Tequila or Flavor Flav after knowing them for just a few days), it'll have me addicted through the first season. Yikes, somebody get Dr. Drew to give me a call before Bromance debuts. Submitted by on Tue, 2008-06-10 09:57. Proof that "The Love Guru" isn't the worst idea Mike Myers has had this yearMeet Bucky Eisenstein, the gay, incestuous, demon-worshipping, poop-eating animal trainer with a hoof for a hand that Mike Myers played on last night's MTV Movie Awards. If you're, you know, into that kind of thing. (Clip will play in a new window.) Other than a reference to "a gay dude's Oscar party" in the opening sequence, it was the straightest Awards in recent memory. What, no Best Kiss nom for Chuck and Larry? Oh, that's right. They didn't kiss! Nice to see Johnny Depp back in Jump Street-era hot form, though. If you missed it (and I'm sure you did), you can watch the whole thing on demand online. Over the last 8 seasons, MTV's Made has transformed the lives of hopeless teens and has even featured a couple queer youths looking to change their image and challenge the stereotypes of the status quo. The season 8 finale airs Saturday, March 8th and the final segment features a self-proclaimed "Choir Queer" named Chris Hendricks who wants to trade in his robes for ropes and a pair of skin tight spandex to become a professional wrestler with the help of Motor City Machine Guns Alex Shelley and Total Non Stop Action's Chris Sabin. Before the hour is over Chris will supposedly team up with Alex and Sabin to take on N8Mattson, Petey Williams, and Tyson Dix. I cannot wait! My favorite Made makeover has to be out and proud Josh Turk who was first featured in Season 6 when he went from being a male cheerleader to a soccer wannabe with fabulous flair. He returned earlier this season after moving to NYC to become a Fashion Journalist where America's Next Top Model ex-Judge Nole Marin helped coach him in the ways of the fashion world.
While Josh was probably the most memorable gay featured, there are some other boys that made an impression by pushing the envelope and bucking masculinity to discover what many view as "fruity" endeavors. My favorites have to be Dylan the Class Clown that wanted to become a Fashion Designer (with Project Runway's Austin Scarlett making a cameo), Mack who went from a jock to a ballerina and Zach the football player that wanted to be a figure skater. Made is entertaining and inspiring while being somewhat educational and influential in changing the way youths perceive age, race, sexuality and gender roles. The Season 8 Finale airs Saturday, March 8th from 10am - 1pm EST (with Chris Hendricks segment airing from Noon-1pm EST). Submitted by on Wed, 2008-02-27 15:45. Smoking pot makes you gay! And hot! And incestuous! Those helpful Public Service Announcements produced by the Department of Good Intentions have probably been around since cavemen first scrawled on rock walls (hunting mammoth drunk BAD!). We all remember those PSA's warning you not to
I can't find a YouTube clip so you'll have to go to Advertising Age to watch the whole thing. On the plus side, no one leaps up and rips out chest hair or gets whacked with a tire iron after the kiss. On the down side, what message are they sending here? At first it seems to be implying that pot will mess you up so bad that you'll kiss another guy, but then there is the "twist" and you see that twist is supposed to be the messed up aspect. Still, I think it is a pretty mixed message that doesn't entirely work. I can't say I about crazy about it. What do you think? Is my sense of humor in need of a tune up? (FYI, there isn't any dope out there strong enough to cause me to kiss my brother! No offense, Chris!) Submitted by on Wed, 2007-04-18 17:49. Davis Again, Feast of Fools, JFK Jr, and moreYesterday, I mentioned that The Real World's gay boy, Davis, got punched in the face on Inferno 3. Well, apparently over on The Real World he's coming on to his roommate again. No, not the boys. The girls. Oy. What. A. Dolt. Kenneth in the 212 has a thing for JFK Jr. (I can't relate at all and that's why I'm including this picture.)
Our very own Brent Hartinger appeared this week on the wildly popular Feast of Fools. Not a whole lot at the box office this weekend, but the bisexual Mike White (Chuck and Buck) wrote and directed Year of the Dog starring Molly Shannon. Also opening is Aqua Teen Hunger Force Something Something. I wouldn't be surprised if something gay pops up there. This is what NBC gets for degaying Zach on Heroes. Bwahaha!
