American soaps lag far behind their British counterparts in depicting same-sex relationships.

Shock! Horror! Todd's Back in Coronation Street!

At first we thought it was just a rumor or wishful thinking on our part. Todd Grimshaw (Bruno Langley) back in Weatherfield? Surely not! Well, actually, surely yes! So hold on to your seats folks, because on October 15, Todd will be making the first of his thirteen-episode appearance in Coronation Street.

Gosh, it’s almost too exciting to be true! After all, it’s been three years since Todd came out as gay to his then pregnant fiancé Sarah (Tina O'Brien); endured the tragic loss of their premature son; contended with homophobia from his neighbours, and caught Sarah in bed with his big brother, Jason (Ryan Thomas). Oh, and had a fling with nurse Karl (Chris Finch), too. Phew! It’s no wonder he left Weatherfield and moved to the Big Smoke.

Actor Bruno Langley was just 17-years-old when he was catapulted into the spotlight as Todd Grimshaw. And then, three years later, he found himself something of a gay icon, after being involved in one of the most controversial storylines in Coronation Street's 45-year history. It was a storyline that certainly got the nation talking.

In an interview with this week’s Inside Soap magazine, the now 24-year-old Langley reveals how happy he is to have the opportunity to retread those famous cobbles…

“Everyone was pleased to see me. It was really strange being back on set at first, but after I'd said hello to everyone and filmed my first two scenes, it was as though I'd never been away."

Of course, it’s a different story on screen. Having been secretly invited to Jason and Sarah's wedding by the Devil aka David (Jack P. Shepherd), Todd’s return initially goes down like a lead balloon.

It's the BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER APRIL 13!

Thus endeth another week and the AfterElton crack team of Flying Monkeys is almost as relieved as Don Imus must be. I hope you've got nice weather headed your way, but Brian tells me so much rain is expected in New York that the animals are pairing off and looking for anyone named Noah. Might be a good weekend to stay in and watch Entourage which I explain in this week's BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER! column is centered around Ari's (Jeremy Piven) out personal assistant Lloyd (Rex Lee). Check back on Monday for our short interview with Rex about what went down--or nearly so--on Sunday night's episode.

Sunday night you also get to meet Kevin's (Matthew Rhys) next love interest on Brothers & Sisters. He's played by Eric Winter and is Senator McCallister's younger brother. No same-sex kisses this episode, but there are fireworks. Oh, and Kevin continues to botch things up romantically. Sigh.
