LGBT stars come out for GLASS fundraiser

GLASS (Gay Adolescent Social Services) is a Los Angeles based non-profit organization that delivers social and health care services to self-identified Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (GLBT) and HIV/AIDS impacted youth.

This past Sunday in LA, 450 people attended the GLASS "Home for the Holidays" brunch. Among the guests were a veritable who's who of out gay and lesbian celebrities. Wilson Cruz, T.R. Knight, Alec Mapa, Rex Lee, Robert Gant, Peter Paige and a host of others all showed up to lend support to GLASS and help raise funds for the 19 foster group homes that GLASS runs for at-risk LGBT youth. Noah's Arc film shooting in November?

Okay, the whole reason I write for this site is so I can say stuff like this: “When I was chatting with Wilson Cruz yesterday, he told me….”

Of course, I realize that my ability to drop the names of Very Important Gay Personages that I’ve interviewed is not why you read what I write, so let me get to the part you will care about: Guess what Wilson Cruz said he’d be doing come November?

He’ll be filming the Noah’s Arc movie! Yes, for all of us who have been in withdrawal since the end of the second season, it looks like our long dark night of the soul will soon be over.

I asked Wilson about his upcoming projects, and he casually mentioned he expected to start filming the Noah’s Arc movie soon. I perked up and, showing the amazing journalistic skills for which I’m justly renowned, gushed a little and said, “Oh wow, what’s going on with that?”

Wilson Cruz: Well, we have a script. We should be shooting before the end of the year, maybe November-ish.
Me:
Is it definite?
Wilson Cruz: It looks that way, yeah.
Logo wouldn’t confirm this for us, so it has to be considered mere rumor at this point, but I’m sitting here going OMG please just make sure Wade and Noah get back together because they are made for each other, yo. I don’t care if Jensen Atwood is busy taking his shirt off on Dante’s Cove, my romantic little lesbian soul needs it. Are you listening, TV gods?

Tylenol PM's GLBT teen homelessness PSA

We're happy to share a PSA that Tylenol PM produced specially for Logo's websites to raise awareness of gay teen homelessness. The spot features out actor Wilson Cruz (Ricky on the groundbreaking drama My So Called Life), and his personal experience as a homeless gay teen really brings the message home.

If you check out the GLBT page of the Tylenol PM website, you'll see that the company is also donating funds to several charities that aim to help gay teens who find themselves without homes to turn to.

  • Two Gay Guys Chewing the Fat: The Hot 100 Edition!

In this week's vlog post of Two Gay Guys, Brent and I move from poolside to actually into the pool. Hey, it was 110 in Palm Springs! This week we "chew the fat" over the AfterElton.com's first annual Hot 100 List which, incidentally, turned out to be national and international news with the Associated Press writing an article about the whole shebang. (Many of the articles can't get over the fact Tom Cruise didn't get a single vote.)

In other words, all this week hundreds of thousands of folks — gay and straight — have been exposed to the shocking notion that gay men enjoy looking at attractive men — and that there is nothing wrong with being thought of as hot by us. In fact, it's a huge compliment! So, yes, the Hot 100 is fun and hot (as we discuss in the vlog), but I'd like to think it also serves a larger purpose in reminding folks of all sorts that gay sexuality is just like any other sexuality.

Plus, the Hot 100 proves once-and-for-all that I'm right about Jake Gyllenhaal and Brent is wrong. Bw-ha-ha!

Gay teen film "Tru Loved" in production, after permit refusal

Gay-themed high school film Tru Loved is in production, after a permit refusal from a California high school that left some school board members, parents of students, and members of the production team wondering if there was something more to the refusal than scheduling conflicts.

Regardless of the hitch, the film itself is back on track. Loved tells the tale of a girl (named Tru, natch) who moves from San Francisco with her two moms to a conservative town where her only friend is a closeted football player. She attempts to start a Gay-Straight Alliance at the school, which of course doesn't go over too terribly well in Nazi-ville.

There's no cast announced yet, but seeing as how writer/director Stewart Wade was able to snag Sally Kirkland, Jonathan Silverman, Deborah Gibson, and of course out actor Wilson Cruz for his last feature, Coffee Date, we can hope to see some starpower behind the flick.

And the as-yet bare-bones website promises a "gay wedding at the climax of the film," lots of hot football players, "sexy lesbian moms who bust all the stereotypes, and a terrific, all-star cast of richly drawn characters." Given the dearth of gay film making it to screens these days, I'd settle for any one of those elements.

As the site also notes, gay teen stories are a pretty hot topic. Our own Brent Hartinger's teen novel Geography Club was a huge hit, and James St. James' Freak Show and other books aimed at gay teens and the teens who love them are popping up all over. Just think: had I had this kind of book available when I was a teen, I wouldn't have been stuck rereading Blubber 387 times in 7th grade.

For a glimpse of Wade's previous work, check out the preview for Coffee Date below.
