To Make a Long Story Short ... Michael poses for Marc, gay Simpsons trivia, and more!

  • Out musician Michael Stipe models for out designer Marc Jacobs.
  • Test your gay Simpsons trivia knowledge!
  • FIRE!, a series of play readings by five emerging black LGBT writers, kicks off in NYC. FIRE! is better experienced in a crowded theater, so check it out. It's free!
  • Are straight people overidentifying with the gays? Is that even possible? If so, I bet a lot of beer is involved. And tulle ... lots and lots of tulle ...
  • Nerd is the new gay: Will & Grace alum Sean Hayes plays Bill Gates in the musical Nerds://A Musical Software Satire
  • Singapore sling: government censors ban photo exhibit of gays and lesbians kissing.

  • To Make a Long Story Short ... gay Car Men, Courtney Love that dare not speak its name, and more!

    • Dance badboy Matthew Bourne (he of the all-male Swan Lake) talks about the matter-of-fact gay couple in his highly sexualized Carmen adaptation, The Car Man (recently revived): "You do mid-week matinees, you get a sea of grey hair, but they love it. They're as open to it as anyone else, they love the raunch."
    • Candace Trunzo apologizes for the "not normal" gay kiss captioning in Star, and it's actually one of the more believable things I've read come from magazine.
    • Baby meets bathwater, yet again: Philly school district prefers to remove all "special month" designations (like Black History Month and such) rather than deal with hubbub over Gay and Lesbian History Month. Next up: school district decides to remove all students from school rather than deal with gay and lesbian students.
    • Courtney Love is glad that we gays are over the vogueing thing and have found our rock-and-roll souls, and she wants to party with us. At least, I think -- I haven't used my crazy person spelling decoder ring on it yet.
    • Gay-fave Johnny Depp to play Barnabas Collins in the big-screen Dark Shadows movie?!! Why am yelling?! Oh right -- because that's AWESOME!
    • Our pal scribegrrrl over at AfterEllen.com cobbled together all the gay-related bits of the much-touted Kyle XY episode from earlier in the week. It's even better than TiVo!
    • Don't forget to check out this week's joint BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER. column, in which Michael and I share roving reporter duties and bring you some dish from the TCA Conference and the Design Star premiere party (we hit the star-studded cocktail parties so you don't have to!), as well as other gay tidbits for the week. Have a great weekend!

To Make a Long Story Short ... Conan Feeds the Bears, inmates love Queen, and more!

    • I can't say it any better than the poster's description: "Inmates of CPDRC Philippines dancing the Radio Gaga by the Queen." It's like Marat Sade, but with a beat you can dance to. (t/y Popcandy)
    • Conan uses a clip from gay porn Feed the Bears without permission, and Cyberbears are doing a good job of pretending not to be thrilled about the best free PR they've ever had.
    • Out actor Rupert Everett cheeky as ever in discussing gay parenting: "Oh God, I could never do that to a child. Can you imagine what it would be like, having your two dads coming to school speech days? And hearing those awful queeny rows while you are trying to get to sleep?"
    • The Sarah Conner Chronicles' Thomas Dekker is still not answering the question in regards to Heroes and his character's straightification -- and really, at this point he's living large enough not to need to, I guess. I wonder what kind of FTD bouquet he sent Isaiah Washington to say "thanks for distracting the gay mafia with the f-bomb while I made a slippery escape"... would that be irises?
    • Emmy-nominated gay actor Neil Patrick Harris talks about the honor and rates the nominated actresses in character as Barney: "Tina Fey is kind of dirty hot."

  • To Make a Long Story Short ...wingnuts hate Chuck and Larry, Kids in the Hall's Scott Thompson is back and more!

    • One of my favorite people in the universe, Scott Thompson from Kids in the Hall, to co-star with Trick himbo J.P. Pitoc in Shifting the Canvas, which looks to be about the gay bohemian gentrification of Brooklyn. Well, I live in Brooklyn and I'm quite sure I have no idea what they're talking about.
    • Chuck & Larry, meet ten gay couples who have had an incredibly hard time getting benefits or rights for their partners. I would crack wise about the ACLU's ruining everyone's fun with this dose of reality, but the movie wasn't much fun to begin with.
    • Speaking of Chuck & Larry, WorldNutDaily's wingnut movie reviewer Ted Baehr hates --gasp! -- the gay firemen movie which he says is one of most anti-Christian of the year. In completely unrelated news, The Guiness Book of World Records gives Baehr title of having the biggest stick up his bum.
    • Not gay, but very funny: 15 Unfortunately Placed Ads (t/y WoWReport)
    • How well do you know your actors who have donned ladies apparel in the movies?
    • Our buddy John Polly at NewNowNext posted a great piece on the 21 Queerest Rock Movies. I did the blurbs for The Apple and The Phantom of the Paradise, so totally read those first.
    • It's the BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER with everything gay from the TCA, news about this week's Entourage and much more!
    • And after the jump you'll find the very courageous Tammy Faye Messner's thoughts on being a pro-gay Christian.

To Make a Long Story Short ... Sir Ian is Lear-y, Chuck and Larry are challenged, and more

    • I have honestly always been a bit wary of Aaron Eckhart because of the Mormon connection (not to mention the fact that he could likely bludgeon me to death with his jawline), but this Advocate interview is pretty cool.
    • Russell Davies, the man behind Dr. Who and Queer as Folk, thinks that gay representation on TV is at an all-time high. Oh, also? He's not referring to American television.
    • The Top Model Formerly Known as Pigford and Ray from College Hill showed up at Houston Pride.
    • Samoan athletes told no gay stuff at South Pacific Games (via QueerTwoCents)
    • Ian McKellen nerve-wracked about playing King Lear. (Leary, perhaps?)
    • It's being asked whether Chuck & Larry ripped off Australian comedy Strange Bedfellows (2004), but hasn't the C&L script been bouncing around Hollywood for almost a decade?
    • Lance Bass talks about his new BF Pedro Andrade at the Hairpsray premiere: "He's really cute." Who, the Brazilian underwear model?! Naaaaaaah...

To Make a Long Story Short ... Randy Harrison treads the boards, Liza shows her gams, and more

    • Out actor Randy Harrison (Queer as Folk's Justin) is getting raves for his performance as Billy Bibbit in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest at the Berkshire Theatre Festival ... opposite Linda Hamilton as Nurse Ratched!
    • Silence of the Lambs to get the musical treatment, as Silence! The Musical opens off-Broadway later this season. This time, the lambs are crying in perfect 4-part harmony.
    • Pics from the Broadway Barks charity event, including those of David Hyde Pierce and a stunned-looking (but still stunning) Cheyenne Jackson.
    • Formerly-vampish James Marsters (Spike from Buffy) to be "naughty and a bit of a psychopath" on Torchwood. (teen-weeny little pic below)
    • Speaking of Torchwood, looks like Bradford Meade himself (Alan Dale from Ugly Betty) is joining the cast as well.
    • Liza showed up at the Hairspray premiere in see-through slacks. Gotta love that woman. And the word "slacks".
    • Our friend Michael over at SyFyPortal is even more disappointed over NBC's hiring of Isaiah Washington than we are. (His goes to eleven.)
    • Sir Elton reportedly is turning a part of his estate into an art museum to display some of his holdings, many of them from noted gay artists like Warhol, Mapplethorpe, and the like. And here I still proudly display my vintage Eyes of Laura Mars poster like I was something special!

  • To Make a Long Story Short ... Neil schools, O'Reilly continues to amaze, and more

    • Neil Patrick Harris to give a master class at the Broadway Theatre Project. He could really be giving a class on having the best gay year ever, the way he's been handling himself since coming out.
    • Bill O'Reilly: gays at baseball games, bad enough; gays at baseball games when hats are distributed to children, completely unacceptable! Is this guy effing serious?!
    • Yesterday we posted on the announced gay forum for Democratic Presidential candidates. Apparently Mike Gravel (who didn't meet the HRC's $100,000 funding requirement) is very upset that he wasn't invited, particularly given his outspoken support of gay issues. HRC says it's simply a matter of giving time to the candidates actually likely to make it to office (hence the funding requirement). Thoughts?
    • SyFyPortal released its final noms for its annual sci-fi awards, and George Takei (yay!) and Thomas Dekker (crickets) are both there for Heroes.
    • For you Xena fans: Renee O'Connor (Gabrielle) will play the lead in upcoming Sci Fi Channel original The Genesis Code, with Big Eden's Tim DeKay (pictured at top) as her hubby.

To Make a Long Story Short ... Reverend Tori, Nate on Out, and more

    • Tori Spelling was ordained by mail to officiate her first wedding -- and it was between two men! I really love this chick. Er ... Reverend chick.
    • John Barrowman talks in depth about gay rights, straight media, and his character: "Anything with a postcode Jack will shag!" Note to self: get ... postcode ...
    • John over at NewNowNext posted a fascinating interview with soul singer Donnie, who recently performed at Black L.A. Pride and has plenty to say about the idea of a "gay community", gays in the Church, and more.
    • Oprah's design guru Nate Berkus (who tragically lost his lover in the Eastern Asian tsunami and was invited by Oprah to speak about it in 2005 on the show) is on the cover of Out.
    • Can you I.D. the actor (who played gay in a gay film) in this car commercial?

To Make a Long Story Short ... Lance Bass' new guy, meet the gay judge, and more!

    • Judge Judy is joined by TV's first out gay judge as Florida's David Young gets his own show. The show's website doesn't hide the fact Young is gay as it mentions he has a partner of twelve years and is known for occasionally bursting into showtunes while in court. What? That's unusual?
    • Looks like the Founding Fathers suffered gay-baiting, too. That John Adams always did set off my gaydar.
    • French tennis player Richard Gasquet is SO NOT GAY!
    • A Telemundo host was fired for using the Spanish word for "grouper", which is apparently also Cuban derogatory slang for "gay", although she claims she wasn't aware of the meaning. Some gay groups have come to her defense. Side note: compared to "grouper", "fairy" almost sounds like a compliment.
    • Nerve.com talks with former escort Mike Jones about his new book about Ted Haggard.
    • The Advocate (and soon Out) now comes to subscribers wrapping-free, if they so choose. We're here, we're queer, we love magazines!
    • People Magazine reports Lance Bass has a new boyfriend. He's an underwear model and Televisionista has the pictures to prove it.

To Make a Long Story Short ... Old Dogs, J.T. LeRoy is a fraud (again), and more

    • Matt Dillon to play an overzealous camp leader where John Travolta and Robin Williams -- who play best (straight) friends forced to babysit for two weeks -- drop their kids in the upcoming "comedy" Old Dogs. Dillon's character of course believes that the men are a gay couple and freaks out accordingly. Noted gay-humor butterfingers Walt Becker (Wild Hogs) to direct with remarkable sensitivity. Not.
    • Noted Carson Kressley fan John Laws finally off the air in Australia.
    • Out and The Advocate to undergo more changes. Oddly, despite circulation being up for both titles and gay ad spends rising steadily since 1996, ad buys for both mags plunged this year. As with everything else, those pesky cowboys likely to blame for 2006's high watermark.
    • In case you were wondering whether it's cool or not to pretend to be an HIV+, abused, trangender, teenaged prostitute to sell a few books and a movie deal, um ... it's not.
    • Apparently a Brazilian soccer player is negotiating coming out of the closet on national television, despite rumblings from his team and agent. Because free added publicity just sucks for a pro sports team, right?
    • Big Brother contestant Seany O'Kane may have been pretending to be gay to get publicity and win the game. See! It's a faux-mo explosion!
