The Lair

"Dante's Cove" and "The Lair" star Dylan Vox is a "Homewrecker"

Dylan Vox, who stars in Dante's Cove and The Lair, will star in the upcoming comedy Homewrecker, which is being described as a parody of Lifetime movies:

"Adapted from the hit 2006 Los Angeles stage production of Naked Deception, the feature-length film now in production tells the story of three happily married gay couples who fall under the seductive spell of hunky bad boy Shawn. He uses his wicked ways to create havoc as the homewrecker houseguest who won't leave until his voracious sexual appetite is sated. Reprising his stage role, Dylan Vox stars in the title role of this witty gay comedy. Watching his antics as the charming, irresistible homewrecker is both unnerving and hilarious, right down to the guaranteed happy ending."

If Dylan looks familiar to some of you, he used to be known as porn star Brad Benton (no relation to Barbi), and is trying to make the leap to more mainstream fare. (He also writes for Gaywired.com, and has starred in a few reality series.)

I know what you're thinking: "What is the point of this post?" "Why should I care about some upcoming sex comedy?"

"And furthermore, what's with the beefcake pics?" Those are all excellent questions, and in lieu of a response, after the break you can see a blonde Dylan in the NSFW trailer for The Lair. Enjoy!

Colton Ford plays "Tug of War" from porn to pop

The transition from porn to pop has never been an easy one; there have been many who have tried with varying degrees of success. Traci Lords for one did have some success with her singles “Fallen Angel” and “Control” as well as the full length CD named for the latter single.

Traci’s success is an exception to the rule; for the most part the transition never takes. Others like Jeff Stryker, Heather Hunter and Jeff Palmer and have failed to crossover. But it looks like the rules are about to be broken in a big way with the release of Colton Ford’s Tug of War.

What some may not know about Colton is that he only did porn for 10 months, but he has been singing since he was a child. He released his first single with John St. James in 1988. Shortly after a string of unlucky business deals put and end to his actively pursuing his music career.

Colton, tired of struggling in the corporate world, did something unexpected for a professional singer: he turned to porn as a means to an end. Porn was something that provided the financial stability that he needed in order to focus on his dream of making it big in the music industry, and put his name into the publics consciousness.

This career move is something most artists who have failed to make the transition to mainstream success have cited as a roadblock for them as an performer. Colton, however has managed to turn this “roadblock” into an asset.

In 2004 he collaborated with dance diva Pepper Mashay on a cover version of Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” that scaled to number 9 on the Billboard Hot Club Play Chart.

His new album is getting a great deal of positive press for the former adult film star. Colton states that Tug of War “is the completion of a long journey for me, my collaboration with Quentin Harris covers a wide range musically, from House, Soul, R&B and goes all the way to pop.”

His video for the single “The Way That You Love Me” was voted one of Logo’s top ten sexiest videos, and there is also a steamier video version of the track (“The Blue Door Edit”) which, along with the original, can be viewed on YouTube.

With his starring role as Sheriff Trout on Here TV’s gay vampire series The Lair and the release of Tug of War, Colton is enjoying a very successful post-porn career. “The album has something for all of my fans to enjoy,” he says.

Those fans can pick up the album when it hits shelves today, and in the meantime here's the video for "The Way That You Love Me".

To Make a Long Story Short ... Marc and Amanda scheme, Ross screams, and more!

  • Ugly Betty's scheme team of Michael Urie (Marc) and Becki Newton (Amanda) hammed it up for a photo shoot, and Televisionista's got all the snaps (and with those two, I have a feeling there were plenty of snaps to be had).
  • here! TV has ordered new seasons of The Lair, The DL Chronicles and Paradise Falls, and is working on Solar Flare, the first of 12 eco-disaster themed movies it has planned. Gay television = eco-disaster. There's probably a metaphor in there but I need more coffee to find it.
  • Here's a chat with Top Chef's gay finalist, Dale. Spoiler: he doesn't tell if he wins this Wednesday or not.
  • Barrowmaniacs rejoice: Captain Jack's new solo album, Another Side, hits shelves November 12th. The album includes John's renditions of "Time After Time," "Your Song," and "If You Leave Me Now." From the looks of the above pic, most of John's Torchwood costars are already quite familiar with his other side.
  • Newly-slim Ross "The Intern" Mathews celebrated his birthday by screaming at cupcakes and startling onlookers. It's really worth a look.

To Make a Long Story Short ... Adler checks into The Parker, how queer is "queer enough", and more!

  • Out designer (and former Top Design judge) Jonathan Adler will appear on tonight's episode of Welcome to the Parker. Here's to hoping he refers to someone on the staff as "the concierge of the Excuses Hotel."
  • Transgender filmmakers and artists are being excluded from LGBT events like Frameline for not being "queer enough" in their work. In related news, some porridge "too hot," other porridge "too cold."
  • On the other end of the spectrum, there's a debate going on at Queersighted over the gay short film Two Big Fags. Thoughts?
  • NewNowNext has former pornstar (and current castmember of The Lair) Colton Ford's video for his first single, "The Way You Love Me".
  • If, like me, you thought that the funniest thing about Chuck & Larry was the idea that Adam Sandler was the hottest guy in the firehouse, this Today Show clip of the pinups from the 2008 FDNY Heroes Calendar is a nice reminder that it was all just Hollywood magic.

To Make a Long Story Short ... manliest musicals, gayest music moments, and more

  • The Manliest Movie Musical Performances Ever. Gerard Butler in The Phantom of the Really Bad Mid-80s Perfume Commercial? Really?
  • And speaking of ... The Gayest Moments in Music. Don't you love Pride month?
  • Dr. Burke not to be replaced by another actor after Isaiah Washington's departure. In related news: Grey's Anatomy not Days of Our Lives.
  • George Michael tapped to appear in the last episode of Extras. (Insert own drugs/driving joke HERE)
  • Tonight's premiere of TNT's The Closer has a gay storyline, but it's not reportedly not very gay friendly. Nor is that a first for the network.
  • Van Hansis didn't win at the Daytime Emmys, but Ellen did -- congrats, lady! And don't forget to vote for Luke and Noah! [Editor's update: Voting has gone from 90% voting against Luke and Noah having a relationship to 45% for it. Keep voting! MJ]
  • Is Yahoo ripping off OhMyGod! blog?
  • And hey -- if you haven't yet read our main page interview with The Lair's Peter Stickles (pictured above), do so! I bet you're just as curious as I was as to whether they realize on-set how hilarious some of that dialog is...
The up-and-coming star on his new role and being out in Hollywood.

Queerview television guide for the weekend of June 1st

Friday

As the World Turns (CBS) 1:00 PM EST
Today's the day Noah, love interest for gay teen Luke Snyder, shows up in Oakdale. So far (aside from ignoring him for long periods of time) ATWT has managed to write Luke with a level of sensitivity and depth that's often lacking on the rest of the show. When Luke struggled with his identity, his father was troubled not by worries about having a gay son but that Luke didn't feel free to talk about a crisis he was facing. This past Wednesday, Luke had a couple great scenes where he talked about feeling left out of the dating scene, a conversation that could nicely set the tone for a summer romance. Hopefully, ATWT will live up to that promise.

Saturday

The Lair (here!TV) On Demand
The latest offering from Here!TV debuts today, this time offering a steamy drama that mixes vampires with the expected cast of stunningly attractive men. And be sure to come back next week for our fresh and revealing new interview with head vamp Peter Stickles (Shortbus).

Sunday

Hollyoaks: The Story So Far (BBC America) 6:30 PM EST
We've mentioned the popular British soap opera Hollyoaks for the complicated same-sex romance between Craig and John Paul, before. The popular soap will become available to American viewers Monday when the soap debuts on BBC America, starting around the time of John Paul's introduction. Tonight, the cable network is airing a half-hour recap episode getting you caught up on the action.

here! says get it monthly

The all-gay here! pay-per-view network announced today that it will be, for the first time, available as a subscription on-demand service on Comcast:

“here! is thrilled to be making its subscription on demand debut on Comcast systems nationwide,” Paul Colichman, founder and CEO, here! With this launch, here! will be available by premium subscription in 23 of the top 25 U.S. television markets.”

For the first time, Comcast On Demand customers will have access to a wide variety of here! original and acquired premium gay and lesbian-themed programs including hit original movies, series, comedies, specials and documentaries for a monthly subscription charge of $7.99.

This news comes just in time for the premiere of the third season of Sex on the Beach Dante's Cove, and their new show, The Lair (pictured above), which looks even more fabulous than DC and has vampires in it.

Having written not only an article on gay kissing on TV but a follow-up piece on gay male sex scenes in television history, I am currently the leading lesbian expert on gay male TV sex, and seriously, if there's anything you want to know about shows that have the hot gay sex on them, you should ask me.

In the course of my research, I've had some interesting discussions with gay fanboys leading critics of popular culture such as Rod McCullom, from whom I got the Noah's Arc love, and my dear friend Travis, who gave me the first season DVD of Queer as Folk for Christmas year before last, leading to my new career in writing about gay men on television.

So, in researching the sex article, a number of people I talked to said, "Gay sex on TV? You're writing an article about Dante's Cove?"

"Dante's Cove?" I asked. "What, pray tell, is that?"

Because my journalistic integrity is very important to me, I watched some Dante's Cove fan videos on YouTube, and was all, wow, this show looks incredibly cheesy and yet, also quite brilliant. I must watch this. So a friend kindly shared her DVDs with me, in order that I could credibly evaluate the show's contribution to the overall history of gay boy sex on TV.

And of course, the whole point of this entry is to explain I'd never heard of Dante's Cove before this, and the reason most likely was that it aired on here! Network, which in addition to being hard to punctuate, has also been kind of hard to get, because you had to buy each show individually and I hate doing that and actually, don't know how to do it. My TV would tell me to use my remote control to order it, but that apparently was a technical function beyond the ability of either my remote control or myself. Take your pick.

All that is now at an end. For a primer, enjoy some forbidden DC lovin' in the below clip.

Isaiah Washington, The Lair, Michael Urie, and Johnny Weir
