The 37 Hottest Guys in Theater

Patrick Wilson

Patrick Wilson's film career has blossomed over the past several years, but he keeps coming back to the theater, God love him. He very recently concluded a run in All My Sons, co-starring with John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, and Katie Holmes. Previously, he had Broadway leads in such shows as The Full Monty, Oklahoma!, and Barefoot in the Park.

Tom Wopat

Tom Wopat has matured nicely from a hot young buck in the '70s TV series The Dukes of Hazzard to a highly attractive, talented, and versatile stage actor. He made his Broadway debut about 30 years ago in I Love My Wife and has since starred in City of Angels, Guys and Dolls, Chicago, Annie Get Your Gun, 42nd Street, and Glengarry Glen Ross. Last season, he was wonderful in the musical A Catered Affair.

Tony Yazbeck

Tony Yazbeck played Tulsa in the recently closed Broadway revival of Gypsy, and took a little time off from that gig to appear as Gabey in the City Center Encores! production of On the Town. He was terrific in both roles, but he looked especially great in a sailor suit!

i only read a couple...

hmmm... i only read probably three or four people who are gay but i know FOR SURE that there are more 'mos on the list.... are they still closeted? or was just not mentioned. it would be nice to know if they are openly gay. but, ofcourse - we have to respect their privacy. even if the medium they are actively in are embracing of gays (although a film career would be a problem if they chose to go that road)
TriplicateGuy's picture

Several of these men are openly gay...

And I would have liked to have seen that mentioned as well. And while I appreciated the article a LOT, leaving Christopher Sieber off the list is just absurd. Out and proud and hysterically funny; what's hotter than that?

"out"

I know a few of these guys are openly gay but they may never have had the opportunity to "come out" in the media. There aren't a lot of outlets doing interviews with people appearing in the theatre unless they are also movie or television actors.
Zam's picture

An opportunity?

The people within the NY theatre community and their friends generally know who's gay or not, and they got over it.  Since it's pretty common to find gays in that community, making an effort to "come out" to the media as a member of that community generally would be greeted by a big yawn these days.  It would be compared to a high school publishing their honor roll every semester.  Just a list of a whole bunch of names.

But since nearly every NY actor seems to have a myspace or facebook or blog or other web page, if you're REALLY interested in finding out, it's not hard to do so.

Very true

I'm not even sure what the standard for being "out" or not is. I mean--we knew Cheyenne Jackson was gay long before he had the opportunity to "come out" in the pages of the Advocate (in the days before facebook). Many of these guys are so out it probably wouldn't occur to them to "come out".
Michael Jensen's picture

For our purposes, the definition of "out" is having

publicly spoken about it in the media and on the record or having indicated through their actions (appearing in public with significant other that is then reported on and thereby making it clear they are a couple) that they are involved in a same-sex relationship. Yes, this a gray area which we recently wrote about here but our policy is to definitely err on the side of caution.

Great list!

Great list! Wonderful to see Will Chase, Telly, Jay, Gavin, Aaron Tveit, Raul, Chad, and Will Swenson on there! But some major oversights: Norbert Leo Butz, Christopher J. Hanke, Spencer Liff (if Jay can be on there, so can Spencer), Adam Pascal, Barrett Foa... I'm sure I missed more. Broadway's full of beautiful men.

My longtime Broadway crush

Christopher Sieber, in addition to his television work, has had featured roles in numerous Broadway musicals. His theatrical resume includes Beauty And The Beast, Chicago, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Into The Woods and Spamalot. He's currently appearing (on his knees) as Lord Farquaad in Shrek The Musical. All that, plus he's out and proud - what more could you want?

David Burnham

I saw David in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in Vancouver years ago back when the Ford Theatre was still open. He was utterly amazing. No one could have done the part better.

Thought we were skipping the chorus boys...

Nick Adams? Really? Don't get me wrong, he is talented and beautiful to look at. However, he is a chorus boy. Nick was a replacement in A Chorus Line, who had all of 10 lines. In Guys and Dolls, he will be in the chorus again. The only reason that this guy has any media around his is due to Mario Lopez and tank top. I am sorry guys. I usually agree 100% but you went for the beef not the facts on this one. What about Tituss Bugress(Jersey Boys, The Little Mermaid, this seasons Guys and Dolls), Christopher Seiber(Into the Woods, Spamalot, Thouroughly Modern Millie, Shrek) or Howie Michael Smith(Avenue Q)? All very hot men who are current leads in Broadway shows.

I Went To High School With.......

David Burnham in the mid '80s! And i'm one of his MySpace friends. I had such a crush on him. Seeing him in the Los Angeles production of "The Light in the Piazza" was an amazing experience. He's still gorgeous.

I think Robin De Jesus who plays In The Heights' puckish Sonny deserves a mention. A genuine talent, great comic delivery and cute as a button.

This list is worthless without John Hill!!

How can anybody take this list serious with such a glaring omission???

John Hill in Bare. (<--- click)Tell me 4:29 till the end doesn't rip your heart out - dare you! 6:49, the confessional scene is incredible.

Hot, gay, talented and funny! (<---click) Check out his YouTube channel

I think he should be added to the list.

Nick Adams

It did seem a bit unfair to have Nick Adams as the first on your list--kind of spoiled it for everybody else! Perhaps you should have listed them randomly? Not that I'm complaining...

Chad Goodridge

THANK YOU, Thank You, thank you for including Chad on your list. He was a standout in the exceptional cast of "Passing Strange."

Good List

But there were glaring omissions as others have said like Michael Arden, Max Von Essen and Paulo Szot. Eric Kunze and Matt Bogart should be up there as well. Same with Michael Hayden, who was an amazingly acted Billy Bigelow in the 1994 revival of CAROUSEL in Lincoln Center. Whatever the case may be, these gentlemen are so talented and most of them are very friendly at the stage door (prime example is Cheyenne Jackson, who is uber friendly and crazy talented). These guys work their butts off in every performance, and they really do give their Hollywood TV/film counterparts a run for their money with each and every LIVE performance they give.

Nick Adams

Those hypnotic eyes, those plump lips a rockhard body and from what i can tell from inteviews a uplifting personality makes him my nr1.
Dean's picture

OK, why NOT the chorus boys.....

I don't think this list IS complete until you list out all of the men that back these guys up! After all, these guys are nothing without those in the chorus and ensemble that back up and support them. Otherwise they're just doing a one man show. The rest of your list however is GREAT!

What about Jack

Hey, did I miss something...shame guys for missing the always hot Jack Noseworthy
