"Broadway Backwards" gets pretty gay

The male ensemble strutted half-naked through "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair," from South Pacific. (Don't expect to see the number staged this way in the upcoming Lincoln Center Theater production!)

Lainie Kazan sang of lost love in "The Gal That Got Away," from the film A Star is Born

Tituss Burgess, a.k.a. Sebastian in The Little Mermaid, performed "Maybe This Time" from Cabaret

Cheyenne Jackson (Xanadu) and Anthony Rapp (Rent) avoided camp and played it straight, if you'll pardon the expression, as they brought the concert to a close with a moving, thrilling performance of "Suddenly Seymour" from Little Shop of Horrors

Question...

do these performances ever get released on DVD or CD? I mean, what about us folks out here in the sticks who only get to see endless high school productions of Oklahoma and Guys and Dolls with an occasional Our Town thrown in for variety?!

I'll opt for "take"

Yes - when news first hit that Harris and Burtka were doing a duet, my first thought was "Take Me or Leave Me" (followed by an ill-considered "Shapoopi" fantasy). Wish I could have been there to see it.

Now instead of doing things

Now instead of doing things I scheduled for this evening I'll be looking for Neil and David on YouTube.... And people wonder why I barely meet the deadlines...

Who is the beyond hot Eric Bogosian type in South Pacific?

Cheyenne who? While my heart will always go one for Jackson, he is taken after all. As such, I now have my mitts set on the hairy-chested hunk in the first caption. Any info. so that I can know the name of the man who I am now pining for? You guys never disappoint me so bring it on...

Well, I knew Doogie was gay right away, I mean he had a cut boy climbing hi nis window every night when he was still just a teen. LOL. I want to know what happened to his cute neighbor?? Dennis

Max Casella

. . . is the actor who played Doogie's neighbor. And I must say he matured quite nicely himself. I have never seen a single episode of "the Sopranos," but apparently he was a member of the cast.

The truth is not always pretty . . . but it's still the truth.

Just like your living room

It's just like when I sing all the girl's parts to the musicals when I listen to them at home, except this time it's with more famous people. Every time I see or hear a show I change the leads so it's man and man together. And I always thought the men should sing "Gonna wash that man" anyways, and the women should have sung "There ain't nothing like a dame." "I'm not blunt. Everyone else is overly vague."

Right song wrong singer.

While I thought that Neil and David should sing THE MUSIC THAT MAKES ME DANCE. It was cut from the film in favor for of MY MAN, which Fanny Brice originated in the Ziegfield Follies of 1921. I imagine or out of drag Charles Busch (aka Angela Arden for you Nukies)dis a great rendition. I wish they do the same thing here in Los Angeles.

Take Me or Leave Me

Thank you nightfish91 for the clips!!!! I can't wait for the whole thing... fun I thought the boys would have sung opposite parts... "It's time to speak truth to power y'all."
