Trendy Gay Hipster: Oh, Haaaaaay! It's the Oscars Y'all!

The 83rd annual Academy Awards are just days away, and my ravishing brown eyes couldn't be happier with the nominations this year – except the fact that Blue Valentine wasn't nominated for Best Picture. Totally robbed! That's just my humble opinion though.

However, that slight aside, the fashion and costumes from the movies I've seen over the past year were pretty magnetic and — similar to the feeling I get when I see a clearance sale on vintage apparel — simply irresistible!

To get us ready for the big night, I thought it would be a treat to share some of the fashion looks that stood out in this year's Oscar nominations and made me say “Oh, haaaaaay!”

I have to start first with Inception, the movie that after watching it, had me cleaning up the remains of my brain from a serious mind-explosion. Aside from the 'WTF' moment I had upon exiting the theater, I was completely in awe of the styling and costumes in the film. The classic suit and tie look, combined with the slicked back hairstyles, really set a different tone for the movie and brought an ageless style up-to-date.

Speaking of classic looks, the number of leather jackets in Inception carried me to my happy place (and I don't mean Sea World, although that place makes me happy too). Frankly, you can never go wrong with leather and the fact that a lot of the leather clothing in this film is actually wearable, really helped bring the film's originality to a fashion height.

Did I also mention that Joseph Gordon-Levitt looked pretty adorable here as well?

Next we have The Fighter, which features Mark Wahlberg buffed out in nothing but shorts. If that isn't the height of fashion, I don't know what is. If you were expecting more complete commentary on this movie’s fashion sense, I apologize, but I was completely distracted by Wahlberg's stellar performance ... and other things, and I don’t recall who else wore what. But otherwise, great movie!

Congrats to Colleen Atwood for her costume work in Disney's revamp of Alice in Wonderland, nominated for Best Costume Design. The costumes in Alice are high fashion, runway-ready attire indeed, and I loved everything about them — from the choice of textiles to the colors to the patterns. Every time a new sartorial choice appeared on the big screen, the little fashionista in my head was screaming with joy!

My favorite outfit, though, was the beautiful red number Alice wore with the dramatic white lace and black stripes sporting the layered trim at the bottom. All of that detail in the patterns made her look like a little princess of hearts. Frankly, it makes me a little jealous.

The styling in the movie was fabulous; it's haute couture with a Tim Burton twist and was simply amazing. If Colleen doesn't win for this, I will howl like a banshee, hunting for her prey, until the dawn of Monday! (Trust me, it's really not a pretty sight when I get upset.)
