Trendy Gay Hipster: He Works Hard For The Money! So You Better Dress Him Right!

One thing that I’ve noticed while commuting to that place that pays you to do things that are important for business and earning a paycheck — you know, “work” — is the fact that a lot of today’s businessmen are dressing rather … monotonously.

The bottom line is that there’s a wonderful world of clothing and accessories out there to transform a vanilla work outfit into a more stylish, yet appropriate business look. And why would you look like beef jerky when you can look like a prime steak?

This year, work apparel for the career man has become more fashionable and comfortable, while still staying suitable for the office. So if any of you boys are worried about not violating that company dress code, or you simply don’t want to look like a piece of beef jerky anymore — fear not! The Trendy Gay Hipster has a few tips, tricks, and styles to share amongst his fellow brethren.

For starters, the perfect suit should fit to your body type and comfort. Having a loose fitting suit looks sloppy, giving you an unappealing look that no man should ever sport, and sends a message that you aren’t to be taken seriously.

Your business attire needs to include a collared shirt and tie that blends together well, adding a nice touch to your suit and showing off your fashion “voice” even when constricted by company rules. Consider wearing the suit without a tie or leaving the shirt partially unbuttoned to bring some edge to the outfit.

If you’re allowed, add color beyond just navy blue, black or gray, try a bright splash of color with your tie or a handkerchief to brighten up your look. And if you’re able to be even a little more adventurous in your wardrobe, play with styles like plaid or wool check suits to really be fun.

There are plenty of combinations you can experiment with when putting together the best outfit for work. Going outside the box might just impress your co-workers, including that closeted intern who has been eying you when you grab your morning coffee.

Oh, how I do enjoy the office gossip!

More into business casual? Lose the blazer and just rock the collared shirt and dress pants. This specific style for work looks very relaxed, but is still stylish. For an even more basic look, a tucked-in shirt with a slimming pair of pants, along with a correlating tie, is still eye-catching and says, “Hey, I’m here to do business, and I look pretty damn good while doing it.”

For an upgrade that will really make your colleagues envy your closet, switch it up with a pair of pants that incorporate some sort of pattern, such as pinstripes. And wearing a dress shirt, un-tucked and unbuttoned at the top, is sexy and modern, giving you a certain edge amongst the big boys.

And don’t forget the shoes if you want to add even more of an edge. Remember the wingtips and boots I told you about previously!

If you’re more of a “Casual Friday” kind of guy on an everyday basis (like myself!), or you just want to be a fashionista on an actual Casual Friday, don’t be afraid to play with your wardrobe even more. On the one day where you can actually get out of the suit, really show off what makes you an individual, because while showing off your fashion sense is wonderful, doing it with a certain sophistication and class is fierce, my dears!

As always, shop smart! If you’re going to use your hard earned money to buy some amazing outfits, have an idea of what you’re looking to wear, what makes you feel comfortable, and know what you’re looking to spend. Following those guidelines makes any shopping experience less stressful and more enjoyable.

For the boys that require a well-tailored suit, definitely do some serious window-shopping before making that final purchase. The particular suit that you end up buying will say a lot about your personal style, as well as set a bar for your reputation at work.

And remember, a good quality suit can last for quite some time, giving you a chance to stylize it however you may please.

You can find much affordable and adorable business apparel in many retail stores, even vintage stores, if you’re feeling dangerously thrifty. Personally, I recommend Gilt.com, which has become my new obsession for shopping for great fashion deals.

I do enjoy a good deal while still looking like I’m worth every penny — which I am, of course!
