TV on Tap (Tuesday, June 28, 2011)

The Voice is one show away from picking its winner as a two-night finale begins.

News

Like many hit music-themed shows, The Voice will be going on tour. the 8 semifinalists will be going on tour which includes Nakia. The four mentors will not be part of the tour.

There's been questions if this season of Weeds will be the final one. Creator Jenji Kohan's contract ends this year but Showtime hasn't committed either way. Now, Kohan says she's writing two endings for this season, one meant as a series finale.

Meanwhile, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan is saying the fifth season may be the final one, though he may change his mind about that. Since Gilligan has previously said that he couldn't imagine going beyond three or four seasons, I figure there's a good chance Gilligan will start getting ideas for season six in about year.

The talk show line-up for 2012 is getting crowded with Katie Couric, Rikki Lake and Jeff Probst all getting talk shows. Reportedly, Probst will be able to continue filming Survivor during his talk show's hiatus. I wonder which shows will be cancelled to make room for all these new chatfests?

TNT's alien invasion drama Falling Skies lost 30% of the viewers who tuned in to the premiere. which sounds normal to me for a show so heavily-marketed. Meanwhile, Leverage is up 10% from a year ago.

I didn't bring up the second season premiere of The Marriage Ref on this week's Appointment Viewing since I figured none of you were interested in seeing Tracy Jordan on TV after his ugly homophobic rant. I'd guess the rest of the country felt similarly. Last night's episode was down 20% from a year ago and was beat by a rerun of CSI: Miami.
