TV on Tap (Wednesday, July 6 2011)

Demanding and OCD-suffering boss Jeff Lewis is back on Bravo when a new season of Flipping Out debuts tonight.

News

I have a feeling we're going to spend the summer hearing updates on who will or will not be a part of The X-Factor when it makes its debut in the fall. Now it sounds like Mariah Carey might end up being a mentor to the first-season's competitors. That makes The X-Factor a little more interesting to me, but the new reality series still has a long way to go before I think TV needs another singing competition.

According to Deadline, there are three channels competing for the right to air Hit and Miss in the States. The drama, from Shameless creator Paul Abbott, stars Chloe Sevigny as a transgender hitwoman. Since I'm a huge Shameless fan, I'm eager to see where Hit and Miss ends up.

USA Network's dramas have been getting plenty of press for the upcoming guest appearances and now they've got Charisma Carpenter headed to Burn Notice as a "high-maintenance trophy wife". That character description must sound familiar to Carpenter's Veronica Mars-watching fans.

Why did Alexa Havins take the role offered her in the upcoming Torchwood series? It turns out her husband,  Justin Bruening (who also appears on tonight's State of Georgia)  is a Torchwood fanboy and pressed her to take the part. Since I have that kind of memory, I'm reminded of how Bruening starred in that doomed Knight Rider revival where one of the characters dressed as Captain Jack Harkness for Halloween.

The ratings for the second week Countdown with Keith Olbermann dropped by 29%, which sounds like a normal post-premiere drop to me. At this point, I think Current thinks it got its money's worth by getting thousands of people to look up if they have Current on their cable package.
