TV on Tap: Revisiting "Paris is Burning," Closing "Belle" for Darren Star, and Cobra Starship Headed to "90210"

Morgan Spurlock checks on the participants of Paris is Burning
on tonight's
50 Documentaries to See Before You Die.

News

I'm still loyal to Cobra Starship after their excellent rewrite/cover of Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl," so I'll be watching when they perform on 90210 this season, even if the constantly-unwatchable Adrianna is in that scene.

Uh-oh. Darren Star has left upcoming ABC dramedy Good Christian Belles (née Bitches) early. Star wasn't expected to stay with the show but this is an earlier-than-expected departure, due to tension between Star and the showrunners. This kind of behind-the-scenes turmoil can often overshadow a series and leave the press betting against a show before it debuts. That's not always a bad sign, however. ABC's Brothers & Sisters had plenty of changes before it began what turned out to be a five-season run.

HBO is bringing Eric Stonestreet to its original movies. The Modern Family actor will play fallen silent movie star Fatty Arbuckle in The Day the Laughter Stopped.

ABC has optioned a series that reinterprets the classic story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde called Hyde, about a timid doctor who develops a second personality as a side effect of experimental eye treatment. Sadly, that name reminds me that Stephen Moffat probably won't deliver that follow-up to Jekyll that was discussed a few years back.

With Awkward. building an audience and Death Valley getting some pre-debut buzz, MTV is developing another comedy. This one is called Bottomfeeders and comes from Chelsea Lately panelist Arden Myrin, MadTV alum Bruce McCoy and child star-turned-producer Fred Savage.

After growing its audience over the season, Oxygen is reportedly negotiating for a second season of The Glee Project. The second season will be bigger, as many second seasons are, with four or five auditions happening around the country.

Listings

Pretty Little Liars (ABC Family) 8:00 PM ET
With Emily about to break, the Liars turn to someone outside of their group for advice on dealing with "A."

The Looney Tunes Show (Cartoon Network) 8:00 PM ET
I've only been watching the Cartoon Network's new, sitcom-y take on the classic Warner Bros. characters off and on, but if the preview Ed found is any indication, there should be some humor about accidental hoyay.

America's Got Talent (NBC) 9:00 PM ET
The semi-final rounds begin tonight, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed all the out performers don't appear on the same episode and have to compete against each other. Either way, I'll be happy to see Daniel Joseph Baker sing again.

Flipping Out (Bravo) 9:00 PM ET
We've already seen that it doesn't take much to get Jeff's suspicions up, and tonight he starts to suspect one of his contractors is getting creative with the money.

50 Documentaries to See Before You Die (Current) 9:00 PM ET
This week, Morgan counts down ten more must-see documentaries while checking up with some of the people who were a part of ball culture documentary Paris is Burning. Jared Leto and Aisha Tyler are among this week's talking heads.

Take the Money and Run (ABC) 9:00 PM ET
ABC's new and compelling game show has two people trying to hide a briefcase of money from the police and tonight a "domestically partnered" couple, Ron and Beau (thanks dpc!) will try to survive the interrogation.

Todd and the Book of Pure Evil (FEARnet) 10:00 PM ET
The first half of FEARnet's new comedy block sounds like a comedic version of Friday the 13th: The Series, with an evil book that grants wishes, only for them to go wrong, leaving Todd to fix things, and tonight the only gay kid at Crowley High uses the book to make every other boy in school gay like him.

Psychoville (FEARnet) 10:30 PM ET
...and while we're talking about FEARnet's new comedy block, did you know that their British import comedy Psychoville includes Dawn French (frequent comedy partner of Jennifer Saunders, as if I needed to tell you that) as an unbalanced midwife?

Awkward. (MTV) 11:00 PM ET
What is it about an elite charity event that brings Jenna socializing with the mean girls, and how will she handle things when Matty and Jake show up at the event?

The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS) 11:35 PM ET
The constantly-amazing Rachel Maddow will be visiting Dave tonight.

Tomorrow's Preview

Days of Our Lives (NBC) Check local listings
While I'm debating if I should continue paying attention to Will, we'll have Sonny appearing in tomorrow's episode.

Happy Endings (ABC) 9:30 PM ET
There wasn't enough time for ABC to air all of the episodes filmed for the first season (perhaps that's a sign that Happy Endings was a surprise hit?) so tomorrow night we will get an episode that has never aired before, all a month before the season begins.
