TV on Tap: "Top Chef: Just Desserts" Returns, Isaiah Mustafa Spices "Charlie's Angels," and a Bonus "Happy Endings"

Top Chef: Just Desserts returns tonight with a new season of pastry and sugar-spin drama.

News

Old Spice spokesperson Isaiah Mustafa will appear as a cop one of the Angels used to date. I'm sure we all hope this is the first in a long line of hunky casting news for Charlie's Angels.

Ross Matthews has signed a one-year deal with E! that includes a talk show pilot (produced by Chelsea Handler's production company) and makes him one of the entertainment news channel's featured personalities. As much as I'm happy for Mathews, I wish his success were on a less-infuriating network.

Once again, Live Feed viewers are angry with Big Brother producers, accusing them of manipulating the game to get the storyline they want. Again, I wish the producers were up to the challenge of riding with the curveballs that happen during the game.

The big cities all get the coolest fall TV buzz. ABC will allow viewers to get a feel for what 60s air travel was like when it takes the Pan Am Flight Experience to four cities over the summer, while people in New York City and Los Angeles will be able to put themselves in a Ringer-style picture with their own twin. I am so jealous of anyone getting one of those Pan Am bags.

In what may turn out to be a recurring role, Jay Mohr will appear on Prime Suspect as a New York district attorney.

If you find yourself missing Chord Overstreet when the new season of Glee begins, you might want to check out The Middle, where Overstreet will play an idealistic fourth grade teacher. I guess there won't be any shower scenes.

Want to know which brands Gail Simmons will be mentioning again and again on the new season of Top Chef: Just Desserts (debuting tonight)? It's Buick, Extra Desserts Delights Gum and, most aptly (you have to have something to sell to the person who is inspired to become the next Yigit for about a week), Kitchenaid. I can't wait to see the" create your own gum flavor" challenge.

MSNBC has officially given Al Sharpton his own show, titling the 6PM hour (where Sharpton has been guest-hosting) Politics Nation.

Sunday night was all about cable shows setting record-highs. The Glee Project, True Blood and a reality TV franchise I pretend doesn't exist all saw their biggest audiences ever.

Meanwhile, ABC Family's new drama The Lying Game got some moderately good news when its second episode held onto the 1.4 million viewers who checked out the premiere last week. Not losing viewers in the second week is a positive sign, one that raises hope that the audience might build over time.

Airing American Ninja Warrior on NBC turned out to be a win-win for the two Comcast-owned networks. NBC had a strong showing in 18-49 viewers while the cult-fave G4 series got a lot of new viewers.
