TV on Tap: A Canceled "Simpsons" Might Be more Valuable to Fox and Lifetime Wants a Lady Gaga Movie

American Horror Story moves into the neighborhood tonight.

News

Lifetime's upcoming original movies will reportedly include a biopic about Lady Gaga. I may find Gaga's story interesting, but I don't see it working as a TV movie.

Besides canceling The Playboy Club, NBC also gave full-season orders to Up All Night and Whitney. A lot of critics are puzzled by the Whitney order and I agree with the sentiment. Based on the ratings and the second episode, I'm hoping NBC secretly knows that Whitney gets a whole lot better in the next couple episodes. It's got a good cast. Then again, Outsourced also had a good cast and it never got better than "tolerable."

Popular film-directing/producing siblings, Ethan and Joel Coen are working on a TV show for Fox. HarveKarbo would focus on a Hollywood private investigator who is surrounded by the kind of quirky cast that's the trademark of the Coen brothers.

In another measure of how Glee fans just aren't so enthusiastic anymore, people are tweeting about the show less often. The study also looked a which characters fans tweet about most often, Sue is the most popular with Kurt coming in second and Puck in third.

Adding to the chances of The Simpsons being canceled, Deadline says that Fox would make more money if the long-running animated comedy ended. Because the show is so old, the syndication deal does not include cable or streaming outlets and canceling the show would free Fox to seek new deals. Additionally, Deadline points out that a couple weeks ago Fox was thinking of launching something like a Simpsons Channel once those syndication deals end.

While early reports said that Showtime and Netflix were the prime candidates for the new season of Arrested Development, it turns out Hulu also wants the rights to new episodes of the cult-favorite comedy. For Hulu, Arrested Development has already driven over 100 million views — and that's with episodes that can be watched in other mediums.

Meanwhile, in another social media measurement, The Big Bang Theory was the most checked-in show on GetGlue.com, with Dexter and Doctor Who taking a distant second and third place.
