When Bob Met Carlos Making Gaby and Lee Desperately Jealous Housewives

Wasn’t it great to see a broken gay relationship pieced back together on ABC last night?

No, I don’t mean Kevin and Scotty on Brothers & Sisters. I’m talking about Bob and Lee on Desperate Housewives. That’s right, after an ongoing and mostly neglected storyline, ABC revived Bob and Lee for a rapid resolution to their months-long, surrogacy-provoked split.

Before we got to the good stuff – read: Bob and Lee making out like teenagers at the prom – we first got a lesson in reverse stereotyping courtesy of Bob, the show’s “other gay.”

Throughout the series, swishy Lee has done most of the talking and quipping. Now we get our first real glimpse into boring lawyer Bob through a fun storyline about gay-straight friendships – and seduction!

So why has Bob been so boring? He’s not that gay! To boot, he’s a butch gay with a history of seducing straight guys. Next potential target: Carlos Solis?

The episode begins when Bob comes over to the Solis’ for a dinner in honor of his finding their biological daughter. (If you haven’t been watching, don’t ask). Uber butch and uber straight Carlos doesn’t feel like dining with Gaby’s “classy, gay boyfriend,” and barely makes it through the dinner, until Gaby tries to shove tickets to Cats in Bob’s face as a thank you.

Turns out Bob hasn’t much interest in Broadway.

“That was Lee. He was the show queen. When I found out he saw Annie six times, even I wanted to gay bash him,” says Bob, in what turned out to be the most awkward line of the night.

Gay bashing joke? Um, too soon, Mr. Cherry. “Give me a beer and a college basketball game,” says Bob. “And I’m happy.”

Her mouth agape, Gaby asks, “Opera? Beauty pageants? Barbra?” Nope. No “tired gay stereotype” here. Bob likes the simple things: sports.

“Ever think the reason Lee broke up with you is you’re not gay?” Gaby asks, surprised that not all ‘mos Tivo Bravo’s entire lineup.

With a new beer-guzzling gay buddy, Carlos happily befriends Bob and the two go out drinking and get all close just like straight guys do. Gaby’s cool with it until a jealous Lee reveals Bob’s crush on Carlos … and his college nickname: The Flipper!
