GOOL Theater: Edwin's Surprising Secret is Revealed on "Good Times, Bad Times"

Forbidden Love

Get off the cross, honey, someone else needs the wood. Please, I just shake my head at all the overwrought angst Olli is putting himself through over Philippe’s accident, which everyone seems to agree was not Olli’s fault. Even looking at it logically, he is clearly not to blame and his beating himself up makes little sense. It is all just faux drama. And not very good drama at that. I don’t know why the show is tossing in this extraneous nonsense when Christian and Olli already have plenty of very real problems to deal with. Working on repairing their marriage should be plenty of fodder for drama and conflict.

It's pretty clear that Olli is headed down a dark path, but I think the destruction of his marriage would be enough reason for him to unravel. They didn’t need to add this. And please, show, don’t have Christian sleep with another woman, which it looks like he’s about to do. And if he does, could the show just say he’s bisexual and stop ignoring the big pink elephant in the room? Two final thoughts. I liked that Andi put aside how badly Olli regarded their friendship by letting Jessica move in and tried to talk some sense into Olli regarding the accident. And I don’t know what it is in the German water, but both guys looked particularly scrumptious this past week. This clip was worth watching if just for that.

Good Times, Bad Times

It’s been a few weeks since I last checked out this show, so I thought I’d drop in and see what’s been going on. My first reaction is that while the discussion surrounding Edwin’s grades isn’t exactly the stuff that good soap drama is made of, it is a rather realistic dilemma. It’s only natural that Edwin’s grades might suffer with all the turmoil that he was going through when he came out, not to mention the euphoria that comes with having a new boyfriend.

BTW, I really hate Lucas’ hair this week….

Having Lucas show a bit of maturity and come down on Anton’s side was a nice touch, even though it’s hard for me to forget that it wasn’t that long ago that Anton put Lucas in the hospital. But the show has put that in the past, so I guess I have no choice to do the same.

One good thing is that Lucas has become more and more mature over the past few months as his relationship with Edwin has developed, though he still sometimes displays the bratty behavior and impetuousness that makes him who he is. That is good characterization.

As for Edwin, I still have a problem with how he is written. His character's persona continues to change depending on the story. I really feel that he is just poorly drawn.

The chemistry between Raynor Arkenbout and Ferry Doedens remains the strongest asset of this story. Lucas and Edwin are a sweet and engaging couple. And while things are on the lighter side in terms of story right now, it’s a refreshing change from all the tragedy and turmoil that other TV gays are going through.

Emmerdale

First let me address the best of this past week’s episodes and that is the dazzling performance of Pauline Quirke as Hazel.
She is breathtakingly wonderful as a grieving mother. You can just feel Hazel’s deep pain over the loss of her son, even though it may have been by her own hand. Yes, she did what she believed she was right regarding Jackson, but it was still devastating to lose him. The actress is delivering one of the best acting jobs I have seen in a very long time, and I continue to marvel how she handles this very difficult role. Meanwhile Jackson’s funeral was really well done and emotionally moving. And while Marc Silcock gave yet another strong performance as Jackson said his goodbyes via video tape, that is where the problems begin.

Jackson delivered a message from the grave….

Jackson's description of his and Aaron’s relationship is nothing like what actually transpired on screen. Jackson gave the impression this was a loving and intimate coupling when it was anything but to those who watched and saw Jackson and Aaron barely touch for the past year.

Not only that, Jackson said it was love at first sight for him when we all remember that Jackson wanted nothing to do with Aaron after Aaron punched him in the face, not to mention the dozen or so times they broke up. If the show wants to portray this as some great tragic love, then they should have actually written a love story.
