Life Lessons from ABC’s Cross-dressing Comedy "Work It"

ABC’s upcoming sitcom Work It has only released a minute-and-a-half preview to the public, but already it’s blazing a trail for the next phase of television humor. As you can see from the above title card, this show has everything from wacky, miss-aligned fonts to the always hilarious man-legs in heels. But that’s not all. Thanks to an envelope-pushing concept and one-liners that would make Henny Youngman jealous, this trailer has proven that the world is finally ready for another cross-dressing comedy.

As you just saw, Work It follows two manly men who decide to pose as women so they can get hired in the fast-paced, jet-setting world of ... cosmetics sales.

As the promo’s catchphrase clearly states: "desperate TIMES… desperate MEASURES." You know ABC means business because the word "measures" is capitalized and underlined. The marketing team behind Work It clearly knows that the modern TV watcher has no time to watch lowercase, non-underlined measures. These measures are important. No ruler in the world could "measure" how desperate these men are.

After the "clever" wordplay, the trailer treats us to a laundry list of irrefutable facts about gender dynamics that will likely shock you:

1. Men can’t apply make-up.

Also, Janet Reno has seen better days.

2. Women strut.

It’s all in the hips… and the look of embarrassment.

3. Men eat sandwiches and women only consume lettuce and martinis.

"We’re going to silently judge you because this show’s writers are pro-anorexia."
