GOOL Theater: Macs Admits He Was Raped On "People of The Valley!"
Holby City
I’m not sure where the show is going
with this Dan/Malick/Chrissie drama, but I know one thing I don’t want, and that's any type of
romantic relationship between Dan and Malick. Malick is a self-assured,
strong, confident and proud openly gay man. In contrast, Dan is weak,
manipulative, selfish, immature and completely unworthy of a guy like Malick. Yes,
the two have terrific, explosive chemistry, but I just don’t see Malick giving Dan
the time of day, much less entering into any sort of relationship with him. And
since Malick usually looks at Dan with contempt, perhaps the story won’t go there.
Though I fear it might.

This past week was a perfect example of why Malick should steer clear of Dan. Dan was afraid that Malick would tell Chrissie that he was gay, and he was actually jealous that Malick was able to help Chrissie with her career problems where Dan could not. He went out of his way to sabotage Chrissie’s chances to get the job. Plus, his actions, yet again, led to a patient being put at risk. This is the third time this has happened, and it’s time for the show to address it. They really can’t play the same beat over and over and have there be no repercussions or the story will lose it’s integrity. Dan has become a really unappealing character, and it’s time he was made to pay for his dangerous behavior.

Overall though, I’m enjoying the story. I’m still loving Malick. He’s a great character and a solid addition to the lexicon of television gays. I’d like nothing more than for him to have a viable love interest. I also like Chrissie, and I’m anxious to see her move on from her scheming, closeted jerk of a boyfriend. And I did enjoy this week’s medical drama with the two sisters trying to forge a relationship after years of neglect and estrangement. I just wish the show would tone down on the blood and gore. I realize that’s the way medical shows are these days, but I gotta say it’s really hard to watch over dinner.
People of the Valley
So Macs finally did tell someone he was raped. Unfortunately
for him, it would be someone completely unsympathetic towards his plight. I
thought that Gaynor was an
interesting choice for Macs to finally confide in, especially given that she
believes that Macs raped her daughter Izzy.
To make a long story short, Macs was obsessed with Izzy, his ex-girlfriend, but she was dating Jinx, who had a criminal past. Macs coerced Jinx into starting a fight with him, then told Izzy that unless she had sex with him, he’d go to the police and Jinx, who was on parole, would go to jail. She gave in and slept with him. Was it rape or not? Just from discussion I’ve seen on that storyline people seem to have differing views on what happened. It must have been an intriguing storyline when it was playing out.

I know a lot of people thought it was implausible that Macs would confide in Gaynor, but I don’t think it was about that. I think he just needed to tell someone, anyone about the rape and she just happened to catch him at a moment when he was really vulnerable, and it just came spilling out. Rhys Bidder was excellent in that scene, and we felt Macs’ shame, regret and rage at what happened to him.
There’s still the problem of Iolo, who has all but guessed what went down between Macs and Scott. There has to be some sort of plot movement there because we can’t have scene after scene of Iolo begging Macs to talk to him and Macs stonewalling. It’s not only unbelievable, it’s going to get boring if the show keeps doing that. And I gotta say that Iolo threatening to tell their father if Macs doesn’t pull himself together is really ridiculous. These are grown men living on their own, conducting their own lives. Tattling to Daddy just doesn’t seem like what adults would do.
