GOOL Theater: Brendan Has Another Secret on "Hollyoaks"

Neighbours

You know sometimes the comments I read about the shows I cover are more interesting than the episode themselves.
And one comment that I’ve seen a lot of is people thinking that Lucas and Chris should be paired.

When I read stuff like that I wonder if people are actually watching the same show that I am. There isn’t a hint of romance between these two. There isn't even an undercurrent. They have a bit of chemistry, but certainly not of the romantic kind. At least to me. Even more importantly why is it that anytime a gay character shares a scene with any other guy, people are automatically declaring a love match? Why does every story always have to be about romance? I don’t have a problem with intergenerational romance, but I like Chris and Lucas’ mentor and mentee relationship as it is. I think it suits and benefits both characters. Anything more wouldn’t work for me.

Some people are meant to be just friends….

As for the storyline the show is actually telling, I’m delighted that Chris is finally getting his own drama, and it’s a pretty realistic storyline as he struggles with his father and what future he wants for himself. When Chris was coming out, we barely saw his parents as that part of the drama took place off screen. We’ve probably seen more of his dad now that we did back then. It’s nice to see the father/son dynamic play out. I have the feeling that a lot of Chris’s dad’s issues stem from the fact that his son is gay and I hope the show will delve into those unresoved issues.

Forbidden Love

I’m sorry, but if Christian wants to screw around with anyone, male or female (though it will probably always be a female) then he needs to move out of that building.
Sleeping around right across from the apartment you shared with your spouse is all shades of gross. And it really doesn’t say much for Christian as a character. He’s really always been a nice guy, but these days he’s just being written as a pig who can’t keep it in his pants. That would be fine if that’s how Christian had been written before, but this seems to be an entirely new aspect to his personality. I guess that’s the biggest problem I have with this story. These characters just don’t make sense to me, especially Christian these days.

A lot of viewers simply don’t like Christian cheating as they want the guys back together and happy. Me, I don’t really have a problem with the cheating. No, I don’t want it in my own life, but on a soap opera, it creates juicy drama. I just wish I knew why Christian was doing it.

Christian seems to be written out of character in that he’ll lay anything in sight with no regard to common decency or common sense. He’s also very lucky that there apparently are so many women out there who will gladly sleep with a guy they know is married to a man.

Olli is no great shakes and the character drives me nuts, but he doesn’t deserve his philandering man-whore of a husband. And while I did love the montage of Christian and Olli’s wedding day, it’s kind of disturbing that they are broken up and Christian is cheating and they haven’t even been married a year.

Yes Olli, Christian takes off his wedding ring for his trysts with random women…

But, could the show please stop ramming Jessica down our throats? It is simply unbelievable that Olli would continue to befriend and house this woman who willfully destroyed his marriage. I know the show writes it that Olli blames Christian and has forgiven her, but that is just not realistic and reeks of plot being more important than character. Then again, that's how this show rolls these days.
