"Secret Circle" Expands with More Hot Guys. Plus, Why Gale Harold Loves Playing a Witch

Gale Harold as The Secret Circle's Charles Meade

With last night’s episode of the latest CW addictive series, The Secret Circle, there was one departure from the show (at least for now) and a new, surprising revelation that viewers probably didn’t see coming. (I sure didn’t!) To help make sense of the unexpected twists and turns as well as tease what is to come on the witch-based series, Executive Producer Andrew Miller and series star Gale Harold joined a group of journalists at the CW offices earlier this week to answer all the burning questions after an early viewing of last night’s “Balcoin” episode.

[Spoiler Alert – if you haven’t watched last night’s episode of Secret Circle, there are plot details ahead.]

Don’t stay away too long, Jake (Chris Zylka)!! Come back soon!

Just when we were getting used to seeing his chiseled face and tall, sculpted torso stir the pot in the fictional town of Chance Harbor, Chris Zylka’s Jake was sent packing with a group of witch hunters who failed in kidnapping witch Cassie (Britt Robertson), who, it was revealed, is part of a lineage of black magic witches.

Cassie, everyone knows just because a cute boy can kiss doesn’t mean you should trust him!

But before we get into all that, could we see Zylka’s blonde hotness return to Chance Harbor sometime soon? “We like Chris Zylka a lot and he’s a fun character and he’s brought a lot out of Cassie,” explained Miller. “We hope to use him in more episodes down the road and we’re figuring that out right now.”

The big secret that came out to Jake last night was that Cassie has a brother or sister in the circle who is also a child of John Blackwell, Cassie’s supposedly dead father. “Jake knows the existence of such a child,” Miller teased, “but I think the emergence of the second Blackwell offspring will be revealed in due course.” While nobody in the circle of witches is aware of this news, it will surely be a story point when Secret Circle returns with new episodes in January.

Can you imagine what Brian Kinney would’ve done with
the magic crystal in Charles’s possession? (Gale Harold)

Of course, while Jake was in town to help the witch hunters take down the circle of witches, there was more dastardly doings going on, and our favorite Queer As Folk alum was smack-dab in the middle of it all. Charles’s possession of a coveted magical crystal is annoying his cohort Dawn (Natasha Henstridge). While in the beginning of the series Dawn was the one calling the shots in their mysterious plot, Charles is now taking it upon himself to yield a little power. Of their relationship, Harold said the twosome has “that sort of sexual attraction to stay alive but also to take power, like Bonnie and Clyde had. It’s like the feeding off of that…not only do they not trust each other but do they trust the potential of trusting each other, because now it’s becoming a card game.”
