Appointment Viewing: "Doctor Who" Meets Hitler, the Venture Brothers Return, and What Will Happen at The Video Music Awards?

It's time to take a look ahead at a week of Appointment Viewing. I'm afraid circumstances prevented me from reviewing last week's TV picks, but I'm back in time to let you know that this week includes the return of Doctor Who, new comedies on MTV including the horror comedy Death Valley, a Venture Brothers special and a bunch of season finales.

Friday brings the season finale of Rhett & Link: Commercial Kings as the duo go to Vegas to work for a company that drives people home after having too much to drink. For that, they'll have to come up with a jingle that potential customers will remember even after they've had a bunch of drinks.

I wasn't sure what to expect out of Rhett & Link when it debuted, and it's easily turned out to be one of the most enjoyable half-hours on TV every week. It's clear they enjoy meeting quirky business owners and Rhett & Link has turned out to be a loving tribute to the small business and the spirit of individual entrepreneurship. The business owners we meet every week may walk to the beat of a different drummer, but they're not presented as the butt of the joke.

Even better, Rhett and Link show some true ingenuity in their ads, whether they're turning a car wash-owning family into rapping Founding Fathers or trying to bridge the two cultures of Ashville. It may be fun to watch them get to know their new clients, but the final payoff really makes the show.

Meanwhile, Syfy has a new Haven as Audrey discovers a secretive family who have seen a lot of children go missing from their remote home. I'm going to hope the Twitter storyline gets going this week, because I've been pretty disappointed so far. There doesn't even seem to be much of a story happening on Twitter. I'm sure Haven wanted to take a little time so that the word could get out and fans could sign up for the Twitter feeds but I'd really like to see something happen, even if it has to move slowly.

With Doctor Who making its return on Saturday, BBC America is getting viewers ready by airing a marathon of the first half of the current season starting at 8 PM ET. From the episodes when out FBI agent Canton Delaware helps defeat The Silence, to the revelation of River Song's big secret, here's your chance to re-watch them all, looking for all the clues to the Eyepatch Lady's schemes. Even better, each episode will be followed by the corresponding Doctor Who Confidential.

I'm sure I could find Torchwood fanfic about the reunion of the two Captain Jacks.

Friday also brings us a step closer to the final chapter of Torchwood: Miracle Day as Jack encounters someone who he believed had died a long time ago. I only wish that were the original Captain Jack Harkness. Finally, IFC also has a new Whisker Wars as ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons judges the Texas National Championships.

Saturday BBC America brings back Doctor Who to wrap up the sixth season and the mysteries of the Impossible Astronaut, baby Melody Song, as well as The Doctor's impending death. It all begins with a crash landing in 1930s Berlin where he encounters Adolf Hitler along with someone else who is the greatest war criminal in the universe. The "Would you kill Hitler?" dilemma is well-worn territory for time travel stories, so I'm curious to see how Doctor Who comes up with a fresh take on the meeting.

I was pretty underwhelmed by Doctor Who last season. As much as I tried to find things I liked, it just kept failing to wow me the way the previous four seasons did or the way (new Doctor Who showrunner) Steven Moffat's earlier series, Jekyll, did. I liked a lot of the ideas but the actual stories struggled to grab my attention.

BTW, since so many AfterElton readers have indicated how much they like the show, we're going to start recapping it each week!

Hitler and Matt Smith in a top hat? I can't wait.

Thankfully, this season has had the moments that have drawn me in, like when The Doctor defeated The Silence. Amy Pond is still a bit too passive a companion for my tastes but the twists and turns have been exciting again.

That new Doctor Who adventure is followed by a special Best of the Companions, which will highlight the most memorable moments from Amy, River and Rory. Maybe this one will offer an argument to why I should find Amy more interesting than I do.

Syfy has a new original movie Saturday with Killer Mountain. This one stars Battlestar Galatica's Aaron Douglas and Paul Campbell as part of a team of mountain climbers who find the legendary Shangri La — and find the deadly alien protecting it.

Finally, WE has the season finale of Staten Island Cakes as Vinny is asked to bake a cake for the 350th anniversary of Staten Island.
