Emmy Prediction Faceoff: Reader vs. Ed

AfterElton.com is fortunate to have some of the best readers out there as members of our community. They’re thoughtful knowledgeable, and challenging. But seldom are they so directly challenging as the PM I got from CCWayne on Sunday:

How do you feel about a Contributor/Reader challenge? I will post my choices for the major Emmy category winners, you post yours - we let the minions argue about our clearly inferior gray matter - and see who comes out on top. So to speak.

Far be it from me to shy away from a challenge, especially one that allows me to put forth my opinions as if they were facts, like all the folks who cover television tend to do this time of year. Granted, most of those journalists have an MFA from an Ivy League school to back up their choices, but I’m a professional couch potato, which means television is my birthright.

So here’s our take on the top categories.

Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy Series

  • The Colbert Report
  • The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
  • Real Time with Bill Maher
  • Saturday Night Live
  • The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien

CC Wayne: I am rooting for The Tonight Show with Conan 'Brien. NBC really messed up, and they deserve the slap. On their own network! Priceless

Ed Kennedy: While the public at large would like to see NBC shamed and have Conan win, I think that industry types don't like to see their colleagues humiliated, even when they deserve it. And The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is still the smartest show.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy

  • Chris Colfer (Glee)
  • Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men)
  • Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family)
  • Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother)
  • Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family)
  • Ty Burrell (Modern Family)

CC Wayne: Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet will split their vote. Jon Cryer and Ty Burrell are just awful. Chris is too young. This will be trophy number three for Neil Patrick Harris.

Ed Kennedy: Jon Cryer won last year. Ferguson and Stonestreet will split their supporters. Neil will fall to the gay overload in this category, as will Colfer. The Emmy goes to Ty Burrell because the academy loves this style of comedy.
