Are the happy times for Syed and Christian about to be at thing of the past?

Last week kicked off a new storyline for Syed and Christian in which they decided to have a baby and Christian’s BFF Roxy volunteered to be the surrogate. For Christian it was full speed ahead with the baby making. But Syed continued to have doubts. However, he neglected to fully share those feelings with Christian.

Anyone who read last week’s EastEnders update knows that I wasn’t thrilled with the start to the storyline, mostly because I felt the show skipped over about a dozen necessary scenes that would lead to the decision to have the child. We never delved into why Christian wants a baby so badly — and why Syed doesn’t. The storyline is still woefully missing that foundation for the most part. But at least this week the show is starting to give us some insight as to why Syed is so against this parenting venture.

It’s no surprise that Syed would think that two gay men shouldn’t be raising children given his religious background. It also says a lot about how Syed still views himself as a gay man even though he’s out and in a committed relationship. These are the types of realistic issues and situations this storyline should be tackling and not glossing over. I hope that they get further into this as the story unfolds. Though with this show and its shoddy writing, I have my doubts.
