Gays of Our Lives: Who Tried To Kill Brendan Brady on “Hollyoaks”?

In the March edition of Gays Of Our Lives

In GOOL THEATER, Edwin and Lucas deal with Anton’s homophobia on Good Times, Bad Times, Warren schemes to use the truth of Brendan’s sexuality to his own advantage on Hollyoaks and Aaron and Jackson share a bed on Emmerdale.

In GOOL SCOOPS AND SPOILERS, Simon finally meets a sexy new man on Doctors, but will he live long enough to go on a date with him? Plus, the gay couples on Forbidden Love and All That Matters are each torn apart by infidelity while Iolo is confronted by his lover’s wife on People of The Valley.

And in GOOL NEWSBEAT, an Eric Sheffer Stevens update, the Bold and The Beautiful teases a possible gay storyline, it’s a very gay Easter on Coronation Street and the British Soap Awards have plenty of ‘mo’s representing.

All this – and more!

GOOL THEATER

Emmerdale

When we last saw Aaron and Jackson they had reunited and were happy to be back together. But can the good times last? Well, it has been a week.

It’s been a long, long time since I said this, but I really enjoyed Emmerdale this past week. I’ve always thought Aaron and Jackson made a sweet couple and they could be engaging to watch if the show would only let up on the non-stop angst and misery that has plagued them from the day they met. And this past week we actually got to see them both smile, be sweet to each other and act as if they are actually happy to be together again. They even kissed and were physically affectionate! Miracles do happen.

Of course this happiness will be brief and therefore their scenes are tinged with bittersweet, but even with that you actually believe these two love each other and that’s been difficult during much of their troubled pairing. And I really like seeing Jackson’s sense of humor back. It’s one of his most charming traits and Marc Silcock uses it to make his character so real and engaging.

I guess what I liked most about these scenes was that for a couple who has been not very affectionate at times, they are currently dealing with how to be intimate with each other in light of Jackson’s disability. Aaron’s desire and need to be closer to the man he loves and Jackson’s being uncomfortable because of the limitations they face made for some realistic and character driven scenes which were well written and wonderfully acted. And the show lightened what could have been some heavy scenes with humor, which Emmerdale has always excelled at.

And I’m really glad to see Aaron and Jackson’s family there as support for them. Those familial relationships have always been one of the strengths of this storyline and it’s great that Chas and Paddy and Hazel are there for the guys after not playing much of a part in their story for far too long. I’m also happy that Chas has toned down her bitchy attitude towards Jackson, even though it came from wanting to protect Aaron, as it really made her character unappealing.

All in all, it was a great week for Emmerdale and this storyline. If only it could last.
