Gays Of Our Lives Theater: People of the Valley’s Deleted Steamy Gay Love Scene!

Hollyoaks

A lot happened on Hollyoaks this past week, as is typical of this fast paced drama. When we last saw Ste and Brendan, the body of Danny Houston had turned up. Since Brendan murdered him and Warren helped hide the body, both feared they could be arrested for the crime.

Of course, viewers might recall that Brendan planted evidence linking Warren to the crime. That evidence was found, and to Brendan's delight, Warren was arrested. However, it wasn't enough evidence to charge him with anything, so Warren was eventually released. Bent on revenge against Brendan, Warren got it by telling Ste about Brendan’s worst crime.

It’s really going to be difficult for Hollyoaks to top itself after this week. Wonderfully acted, smartly written and showing some skillful cinematography, this show was at its best from the discovery of Danny Houston’s body to the avalanche of life changing events that followed. There were so many good moments and so many deliciously crafted scenes that I don’t have time to list them all. I’ll just hit the ones that are still with me.

I really loved the scenes where Warren tried to ‘seduce’ Brendan. Jamie Lomas and Emmett Scanlan have fantastic chemistry and those scenes were hilarious, outrageous, darkly complex and even a little sexy, I must admit.

And while the fight between Warren and Brendan was totally over the top and strained credulity, I did like that they realized that battering each other was pointless and went off to have a drink. It’s also nice that for all his villainy and evil doing, Warren is no homophobe and could care less that Brendan is gay. It’s Brendan that is still bothered by it.

Warren’s attempts to seduce Brendan were hilarious… and sexy.

But I think the scenes where Ste confronts Brendan about murdering Danny were probably the highlight for me as it showed the dysfunction of this volatile relationship in all its ugly romantic glory. It was best emphasized on those hilarious moments when Ste, while confronting Brendan on being a killer, was jealous that Brendan had more lovers other than Macca and that he’d obviously cared deeply for other men from his past.

And Keiron Richardson later turned in a terrific performance when Ste visited Brendan in the hospital and told his abusive lover that he was the one who tried to kill him and that what they had was irrevocably over. For the first time Brendan got the message (and it was probably was the first time Ste meant it as well) and Brendan’s emotional breakdown following that was probably Scanlan’s best moment this past week.

Of course, Brendan and Ste will wind up together again. The question is how and what will the dynamics of their relationship be like then?

Will Ste and Brendan ever be this close again?

I do have a couple of quibbles though. I’m having a hard time with Ste trying to kill Brendan. I can understand Ste was pushed to his emotional limit, but attempted murder just seems out of character. Even when he was violent in the past, it was never calculated like this.

And also, part of the reason why Brendan remained part of Ste’s life was because Ste let him remain there. During all of this time, Ste kept working for Brendan and never really tried to pull himself out of Brendan’s orbit. So I’m not sure if I buy that Ste couldn’t get away from Brendan, mostly because Ste never really actually attempted to do so.

And I also want to know what happened between the time Ste hit Brendan and when we saw Brendan at the hospital. People are assuming Warren did the crime and Warren has disappeared. Well, where the heck is he? Why would he take off at a time like this and take the blame for whacking Brendan? What did they tell the police, who would no doubt be investigating? There’s a lot of unanswered questions, and I suspect that Hollyoaks is again glossing over things to get to the next story point. Hopefully, they’ll explain those things later.
