GOOL Theater: Christian pops the question on "EastEnders!"

Welcome to another edition of Gays of Our Lives Theater. We’ve got clips and commentary and even some news for you this week. Let’s get started!

Forbidden Love

Sorry Christian, but this situation is all on you.
No matter what Olli did (and he really didn’t do anything, the two of you were just disagreeing), you’re the one who cheated and that makes you the bad guy. Whatever you have to do to get your man back — assuming that’s what you want — is what you have to do. Getting mad at Olli isn't productive. It’s yourself you should be angry with for hooking up with the skanky blonde chick.

It’s no secret that Olli is not my favorite in this duo and I’m usually always on Christian’s side, but I don’t blame Olli for refusing to forgive Christian for his infidelity, especially since this is not the first time. I think before they can make any progress they need to look at why Christian cheats every time they have a problem, no matter what that problem is. Therapy is in order here before any reunion can be considered.

Christian takes his anger out on a punching bag….

Christian can get mad at Olli all he wants, but at the end of the day this situation is on him and just saying "I’m sorry" isn’t good enough, especially with a track record like his. I don’t know if Olli should divorce Christian or not, but in my experience cheating men will always cheat when the opportunity presents itself. If Olli can live with that, he can stay in the marriage and hope for the best. If not….

Overall though, the writing on this storyline is not all that great. I really wish the show would come up with something better and more engaging for these two rather than this tired soap opera drama. They’ve been down this road before and it’s a road trodden too many times. The actors are beautiful, have terrific chemistry and the acting is spot on. They deserve so much better than what they are getting. Though it’s nice to see them on screen more often these days.

Oh and I loved Christian’s primal scream as he took his frustration out on the punching bag. That was a nice touch.

*THANKS TO MERCURY MAY02 FOR THE CLIPS!

Emmerdale

It’s quite chilling and unnerving to have Jackson speak so matter of fact about his plans to kill himself.
And yet he has to be so cold and unemotional about it because as he noted, there are practical issues that must be dealt with, such as any legal ramifications that Hazel and Aaron might face as a result of aiding in his demise. But Jackson’s steely determination on one hand, combined with his giddy happiness that his personal nightmare would soon be over on the other is how someone like Jackson would act now that the plans are underway. Kudos to the writers for getting that characterization right.

Jackson is at peace with his decision to take his own life…

However, I still don’t buy for one minute that Aaron and Hazel would go through with this and that really hurts the storyline. The story took a lot of short cuts and leaps in emotional exploration to get to where it is, odd for a tale that’s dragged out for so long and ate up lots of airtime. Instead of letting us watch variations of the same scene over and over perhaps the show should have given us some story movement or let us see the thought processes of the characters.

One last thing: are Aaron and Jackson ever allowed to be alone? I was shocked when Hazel left them alone for an evening and thought we might get some real conversation between these two supposed boyfriends about what is going on or about their relationship. But instead Adam showed up to be the third wheel in place of Hazel. The show seems to seriously avoid depicting these two as credible partners, even as they go on and about how they love each other. More than anything about this storyline, that’s one thing I have a hard time believing.
