GOOL THEATER

People of the Valley

Okay, what cliché didn’t we see here? From the surprise kiss, to Scott’s endless denials and Iolo trying to convince him to be honest, we've seen exactly this story before on As The World Turns, Forbidden Love, EastEnders and many other soaps. While it might seem like old hat, sadly, it’s still a story that must and should be told. The question is: Is this one being told well?

Even though there’s nothing special about the story in its execution, writing or characterization, so far I’m liking it. I think it’s mostly because Iolo is cute as a button and he obviously needs some loving. Sure, he comes off as a little desperate and needy, but I still want to see how it works out for him.

It would great to have some unforeseen plot twists along the way though. I have a feeling this is all going to play out just as it has in countless other coming out dramas. Scott will continue to deny his feelings, but then something else will happen between he and Iolo. They’ll have an affair with Scott still struggling with his situation.

Then the girlfriend will re-enter the picture, and Scott will coldly dump Iolo and go back to her out of guilt. Eventually though, Scott and Iolo will resume their affair, the girlfriend will find out, and much crying will ensue. See, I saved myself and the viewers about 4 or 5 months. And yet, I still want to see it play out.

BTW, for you readers who have been following the show before this, I have a question: What has Scott and Iolo’s been relationship like? They clearly were good friends and housemates, but were there any hints of an attraction between them? If anyone could answer it would be appreciated.

Forbidden Love

Aw….. this was really sweet. I usually don’t have a taste for overly sugary moments, even in couples I love, and this episode definitely has an overdose of the syrup! But every soap should give their couples some happiness and levity, especially after they’ve come off a heavy storyline, like Christian and Olli have. My favorite part was Olli's reaction when that little baby horse trotted out. Classic.

Too many times soaps pile on misery after misery. Everyone needs a break from the drama once in awhile. So these sweet and very sexy scenes were a nice respite. Plus. there was no Rebecca lurking around. That’s always a plus.

I could have done without the karaoke though. At least Thore Schölermann’s voice isn’t half bad.
