OUR INTERVIEW WITH FORBIDDEN LOVE'S JO WEIL AND THORE SCHÖLERMANN
While gay marriage continues to be a point of controversy in this country, other cultures tend to be more progressive regarding such issues. This includes Germany, where the first on-screen soap church wedding is about to take place when Forbidden Love’s Christian and Olli tie the knot. We chatted via email with Thore Schölermann and Jo Weil about the wedding.
AfterElton.com: What did you think when you first heard Christian and Olli were getting married?
Jo Weil: I was happy because they had experienced a lot together and recently went through a tough crisis in their relationship. Moreover, they have been together for almost 3 years now – for soap-dimensions that’s like half a century in real life (laughs).
Thore Schölermann: To be honest, we already expected something like that. But when it came true I thought: Oh my God, now I’m getting married on TV – to a man!
AE: Any concern it is happening too fast?
JW: I
think that our authors filled the story of Chrolli’s wedding with great
emotions. So far it works for me and the timing is perfect. As I said – after
“such a long relationship” their wedding was overdue – well, at least for
television.
TS: No, it’s not happening too fast,
but basically I think that Christian wouldn’t necessarily marry because he is
too young and thinks of many other things – not especially of getting married.
Olli’s
‘friend’ Robert caused drama for Christian and Olli.
AE: Why do you think now is the right time?
JW: Christian and Olli have gone through a lot of things together. But especially the last half year was a totally new challenge for them. Until this point they had faced all dangers and risks together as a couple. With the intervention of Rebecca and Rob they suddenly [had] the experience [of] living against each other instead of living together.
That was a tough time for Chrolli. After they had
mastered this great feat, they finally recognized that they could no longer
live without each other. What could be more appropriate than a wedding to prove
to the whole world that they belong together for eternity?
TS: Olli and Christian had ups and
downs – especially downs. Now the ups are missing – so they’re getting married
– that’s my personal explanation. From Christian’s viewpoint: I think for both
guys the marriage is another sign of security that they want to give each other
and so leave their problems behind.
