"Emmerdale" Video Update: No Sex Please, We’re British

What’s been happening with Aaron and Jackson lately? Not much. In our last update, Jackson broke up with Aaron, saying that the accident was his fault and blaming Aaron for his paralysis. But Jackson really ended the relationship to spare Aaron the burden of caring for a permanently disabled boyfriend. Aaron has spent the last couple of weeks stewing and feeling sorry for himself and oddly enough Jackson has done the same. And that’s where we begin.

As much as I hate this storyline, and believe me I do, there is no denying that the writing is strong and always emotionally moving and the acting is amazing. Danny Miller as Aaron is good as he always is, but Marc Silcock as Jackson and Pauline Quirke as his mother Hazel are really what is making this storyline work. One of the things I’ve always loved about Jackson was his honest and warm relationship with his mother, which is always on display in their scenes together.

I loved the scene where Hazel realized that her son wouldn’t be able to handle living next door to Aaron and changed her plans about the house. But even better was when she was talking to Paddy about Jackson’s future and how she agonized that he’ll always be alone. I couldn’t help but be moved by such good writing and touching performances, even though I hate the storyline with a passion. The writers have failed to convince me that this all has a point other than to give the actors some weighty material to handle. And that’s not a good enough reason to write a story.

I just feel that Danny Miller and Marc Silcock and their characters are being wasted and ruined by this disaster of a storyline. And sadly, this mess is not going to be ending anytime soon. Yeah, I know I’ve said this all before, but one of the benefits of having your own blog is griping about stuff you don’t like. Over and over and over again.

Is Nick going to be in Aaron’s future?

I did like the scenes between Aaron and Nick, however. It’s nice to see a gay man of color on our screens, and I thought the two actors had a bit of chemistry. I don’t know if we’ll be seeing Nick again, but it would be nice if we did. As for the other important scenes, the ones between Aaron and Jackson, I really had a difficult time with them. To me, Aaron and Jackson getting back together simply makes no sense. Aaron is clearly doing this out of guilt and obligation and not love.
