“Emmerdale” Video Update: Better Than A Sleeping Pill

Most of the so-called drama surrounding Aaron and Jackson for the past couple of weeks has been about getting Jackson home for the holidays. But the house where Jackson was going to be living was not ready, and the hospital wouldn’t release Jackson until it was.

Jackson’s mother Hazel was determined to get Jackson the one thing he really wanted for Christmas --- well, except being able to walk that is. Things didn’t look so good, but thanks to a Good Samaritan and the charitable people of Emmerdale, Hazel got the house ready for Jackson’s homecoming. That’s where we begin...

I’ve complained a lot that this storyline has been unrelentingly sad and tragic and that the show should ease up on the misery just a bit. Well, they definitely changed up the somber tone here, but I didn’t ask them to bore me! Unfortunately, that's exactly what they did

I’m really not sure what the show was going for. Jackson was unable to come home for Christmas, but I didn’t get the impression he was all that upset about it. It seemed to matter more to everyone else than to Jackson himself.

Aaron’s decision to be with Jackson on Christmas Eve instead of leaving him alone, should have been a warm, tender moment full of meaning, but it just seemed as if he came by because he had nothing better to do. And Aaron simply sat across the room barely glancing at his boyfriend, not to mention not even touching him. The duo’s banter, which used to be cute and funny, was tired and lifeless. The actors seemed as bored acting out the material as I was watching it.

But the worst scene was the one where Aaron gave Jackson a shirt and they made a big deal about it as if it were really meaningful. I guess for me, after all the drama and heartache these two have been through, having Aaron's purchase of a shirt for Jackson represent a significant point in their relationship seems kind of ridiculous.

I think maybe if it had been something Aaron actually put some thought into or was meaningful to them as a couple, that moment might have held more significance. To me, it showed how hollow and empty their relationship is and always has been, long before Jackson was injured.

Are we really supposed to be touched by bad gift giving?

Now over the last couple of weeks, I have received a lot of complaints both here on this site and in my e-mail box, taking me to task over my clear disdain for this storyline. And much of the criticism assumes I just don’t want to see disabled people on my screen or that I don’t want their stories being told.

Next page. In my defense, and SPOILERS!
