The Week in Gay TV: Freddy Rodriguez is an agent of "CHAOS" and Elton John does double duty on "Saturday Night Live"
It's time to take a look at The Week in Gay TV, your guide to the week ahead and the shows battling for your attention and DVR space.
Now I know what the date on the calendar is and, while I may be tempted, I'll resist the urge to announce the upcoming debuts of Spiked Shoulder Pad of Love with Adam Lambert, a crossover event where Captain Jack snogs his way through the CW's Friday night line-up, a Glee spin-off where April Rhodes takes charge of the Gay Men's Chorus of Lima, Ohio or the second season premiere of Shameless.
The week ahead is pretty busy as April begins and we get closer to the May sweeps. In addition to plenty of returning shows, we've got the debuts of spy-comedy CHAOS, AMC's newest drama, The Killing and a new season of Top Chef Masters.

CBS has a Friday night of faces familiar to gay TV fans, starting with espionage dramedy CHAOS. The cast includes Six Feet Under and Ugly Betty's Freddy Rodriguez as the newest member of a rogue CIA team, the Clandestine Administration and Oversight Services (I think that acronym is missing an 'H'). With the 24's, Covert Affairs and Rubicon's of the past few years, I like the idea of a silly take on international espionage. Judging from the previews, this could be fun — as long as it can keep from turning into the second half of Ishtar.
That's followed by a new episode of CSI:NY that has Trauma and Vampire Diaries (also Fashion House if you're really dedicated to campy TV) hottie Taylor Kinney.

Meanwhile, Friday sees a changing of the Arthurs as Syfy has the season finale of Merlin while Starz debuts its take on Camelot. Camelot comes from Chris Chibnall, who produced the first two seasons of Torchwood and wrote several episodes, including "Cyberwoman" and "Countrycyde" — considering how polarizing those two episodes are, I'll let you decide for yourself if that piques your interest enough to pay for a Starz subscription. I have a feeling I'll skip Camelot since my partner hated those two episodes so much he is grumbling at me just from hearing me type out the title.
My cable guide tells me there that G4 has special April Fools Day episodes of X-Play and Web Soup (as well as the straight male pandering Attack of the Show). I expect any April Fools episode of X-Play will feature odes to Dynasty Warriors and Yu-Gi-Oh... and I guess Web Soup will feature things you'll never want to unsee?
Teen Nick has a new Gigantic. Apparently, we'll see Piper try to "recast" someone in her dad's life. I have no idea if that means she'll be trying to find him a new boyfriend, a new beard, or what. Finally, there's also a new episode of Law & Order: UK on BBC America.

Saturday Night Live has had a few hosts who can also be a great musical guest (Olivia Newton-John comes to mind) and Saturday we'll see how Elton John can handle double-duty. I have to admit, my first reaction was to wonder if John could handle the comedy duties, but he momentarily won me over with the Benny Hill homage in his promos (even if they used a knockoff "Yakety Sax") and he did host The Muppet Show, which has to count for something.
If you're more in the mood for classic comedy, TV Land has a special looking at The Best of the American Comedy Awards. The special will take a look at highlights from the award show that ran on ABC from 1987-2001 with a special retrospective looking at the career of Lucille Ball and clips of George Carlin, Don Rickles, Betty Whie and more. On the other hand, if you'd rather catch a few thrills, BBC America has the penultimate Being Human.
