Langford on Soaps: Queer Eye’s Jai Rodriguez to Be Will’s First Gay Boyfriend on Days?

LANGFORDS PICKS AND PANS

Days of Our Lives

Can I be honest? I know I'm supposed to feel sympathy for him, but Will’s whining and crying is really starting to wear on my nerves. Don’t get me wrong, Chandler Massey is a talented actor and I love his warm and emotional scenes with his grandmother Marlena, and there’s plenty of flash and fire in his scenes with his scandalous mother, Sami. But I guess I have a problem with Will’s suffering over his sexuality. I can see that Will is tormented over being gay, but I’m not getting why he is so broken up. There isn’t much chance of his being rejected by his family and his friends would completely support him, reasons why many gays stay closeted. I need more insight as to why Will is so troubled, otherwise I’m going to tell him to get off the cross and dry those crocodile tears.

Chandler Massey as Will Horton on "Days"

I’m also frustrated that the show is completely wasting Freddie Smith as Sonny. He is too engaging of an actor and the character is far too appealing to be on the sidelines of the action and only there to support Will. I really want to see Sonny with his own storyline and a romance of his own. I know the show says it’s forthcoming, but let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later. I did enjoy Sonny’s banter with his cute friend Tyler. It showed yet again that Sonny has chemistry with everyone he has scenes with, even if their dialogue was a bit too ‘frat boy’ for my tastes.

Hollyoaks

I have to admit I’m really disappointed by how this show handled Warren’s exit. It was billed as a battle of the titans between Warren and Brendan, but instead it was very little of that. Warren seemed less concerned about getting Brendan than salvaging his relationship with Mitzeee, even if it meant giving her the evidence proving he killed his previous girlfriend in order to win her trust. Frankly, I have a problem with the entire concept of that. Why Warren would actually believe letting Mitzeee in on his murderous past would solidify their relationship is beyond me. It makes Warren out to be a lovesick dupe, and he’s never put anything above his own self-preservation, not even a woman he claimed to love.

I guess I was also bothered by Brendan’s complete lack of concern for Mitzeee’s safety, and how he put the entire burden on her to deal with Warren. Though I guess it’s not above Brendan to be so utterly and completely selfish. But it would have been nice to see he had some affection for Mitzeee after all they’d been through together.

More importantly though, I always thought that Mitzeee could simply break up with Warren and remove herself from the situation. Her feeling trapped in the relationship never held water for me. Overall, I really wish the show had actually given us the dark and brutal conflict between Brendan and Warren they had promised. Once again, Hollyoaks bungles the climax of a major storyline. And they had done so well with the Silas arc. I guess two in a row was too much to hope for.

Good Times, Bad Times

I don’t know much about medical protocol, but for doctors to keep secret a virus that has killed two people so quickly seems terribly irresponsible. There are organizations who handle such things, and you’d think they’d need to be called in. I realize it's being done for story purposes, but it seems to defy logic and common sense to me.

But I have a bigger problem with Anton’s non-reaction to the possibility that Edwin could be infected with a virus that could kill him. There was no panic or fear or terror that his child could die at any moment, and I would think that would come before any other reaction he might have.
