Langford on Soaps: Meet Alejandro, Telemundo’s Gay on "Dangerous Relationships"

LANGFORDS PICKS AND PANS

Neighbours

Not much to say here, other than I thought the scenes of a drugged out Chris revealing his innermost thoughts to be cute and funny. We don’t get to see Chris in comedic moments very often, but James Mason handled it well. I thought it was interesting how Chris prattled on about how much he liked Aiden, clearly a setup for their forthcoming romance. I’m not sure if Chris and Aiden have much chemistry, but then again, it hasn’t had a chance to develop yet. I guess we’ll see as the story moves forward.

Hollyoaks

I really think Hollyoaksdropped the ball in regards to Brendan’s handling of Declan. It’s true that Declan shouldn’t develop Brendan’s less than desirable habits and Brendan should deter that behavior in his son. But the show seems to be saying Brendan can’t change (or won’t change), so he should simply have nothing to do with his child. I would think instead of completely cutting his son out of his life, Brendan, if he really loves his son, should resolve to be a better person because he wants to be a healthy role model for his child.

Seeing him struggle with his inner demons and immoral behavior in contrast with trying to be a good father would show some growth in the character and make for fascinating viewing. To be fair, much of this quick arc has to do with Jay Duffy, the young actor who plays Declan, being unavailable for a long stint. It would be nice if that could change so the show could really flesh out this father/son relationship.

Too bad Declan had to leave so soon..

As for Brendan and Ste, I hope this latest violent attack convinces Ste to end his obsession with Brendan once and for all. It’s sad, but Brendan was right when he said he could have Ste at anytime. Ste continues to involve himself in Brendan’s life, even though Brendan has done everything to push him away. Ste didn’t deserve to get hit, but he should have never, ever involved himself in Brendan’s family disputes. Surely he’s not surprised that Brendan reacted the way in which he did. Brendan has beaten Ste for less.

Thankfully, the show has indicated that it’s over between Brendan and Ste, and I’m hoping they stick with that. In my mind, there is simply too much to overcome. As a viewer I could never get past the constant beatings. I find it disturbing that there are still people who actually continue to want this couple together and that returning to one's abuser would be encouraged. I think it would send a terrible message if the show got them back together again after all that’s happened.

Some fans are saying Brendan and Ste didn’t get any closure to their relationship. I would think that this last beating would be closure enough.

Had enough Ste?
