Langford on Soaps: Is Nurse Aiden Just What The Doctor Ordered on "Neighbours?"

LANGFORD'S PICKS AND PANS

Hollyoaks

I am now officially bored with Ste and Brendan, but more specifically, I’m bored with Ste constantly chasing Brendan. It’s been nearly a year, this man still isn’t ready to come out, he lies and breaks his promises and attacks and abuses Ste with little regret. And yet Ste continues to pursue him. Ste told Declan the truth about his own sexuality in hopes that it would force Brendan out of the closet.

And when his constant needling of Brendan resulted in yet another attack, I knew Ste would never go to the cops, especially after hearing Brendan’s ‘tragic’ tale of his childhood. It’s pathetic, and Ste is coming across as pathetic. I really don't care if these two ever reunite, and I find both characters are more interesting when they are not together.

It’s time for Ste to walk away from Brendan…

For example, I’m loving the growing situation between Brendan and Silas. Clearly, the sociopathic Brendan and the serial killer Silas are on a collision course, and it’s going to be a delicious battle to watch. Emmett Scanlan is always fun as the unpredictable Brendan and Jeff Rawle is suitably creepy as the evil Silas.

The problem I’m having with this storyline is that it doesn’t make sense that Cheryl refuses to even consider that Lynsey might be right. The two are lifelong friends and have been through a lot together. I know that it’s written that way for the story to work. I just wish the writers would be a little more imaginative.

… and time for Jason to let go of Bart

I also really enjoyed the drama between Jason, Bart and Sinead. I have always liked Bart and Jason as a couple, and what makes their relationship so compelling is that it’s truly tragic. They really love each other, but can’t be together because Jason can’t change who he is and neither can Bart. Jason wants to be a boy and Bart isn't gay. The yearning and the heartbreak and the pain is very real. It’s sad, and it touches you because the characters being true to who they are is what is keeping them apart. All the young actors in this storyline are quite good in this story, and as I said last week, I hope Bart and Jason can at least come out of this as friends. It’ll be nice to see Bart support Jason through his transition from female to male.

People of the Valley

Is it bad what I enjoyed the most about this clip was seeing Iolo and Macs looking so handsome in their suits? Those boys dress up well, I must say. About the story, I wonder why it took so long for Macs to look for Scott. You would think that’s something he would have done much earlier in the storyline, like right after the rape instead of waiting months later. And how did he know where to find Scott? We know Iolo tried to track him down awhile back with no success, so how did Macs know where to look?
