LANGFORD PICKS AND PANS

Emmerdale – What Do You Mean You’re Not Over Him Yet?

Has it really been three months since Jackson died? My, how time flies. And to the chagrin of a lot of fans, Aaron is still deeply grieving his boyfriend, even though it's very plausible and realistic. Many of them are ready for Aaron to move on and find a new boyfriend. If this were another soap, I would expect Aaron to already be in love again with someone new, as many shows tend zip through the grieving process.

But not only does Emmerdale move at a slow pace, it’s one of the more realistic soaps out there. I wouldn’t expect Aaron to have moved on so quickly, though I hope someday he does. Part of me fears Aaron will never have another serious boyfriend. Though I hope I’m wrong about that.

Rule Number 1, Aaron: Ex-beards always give the best advice…

As for this week, the only thing I really liked was Victoria and Aarons talk, even if it came out of left field. Victoria and Aaron have had very little to do with one another since they dated way back when, so it was kind of odd to have her seek Aaron out to talk some sense into him.

It would have made more sense for Adam to be the one to talk to Aaron, but the show seems to have forgotten they are best friends. On the other hand, I think Aaron could use more friends and Victoria is such a likable and interesting character that I wouldn’t mind seeing more of them becoming pals. Maybe Aaron could tell her to ditch that loser boyfriend of hers.

Days of Our Lives – Gabi, honey? The clue phone is for you…

This isnt just one of the most predictable coming out stories Ive ever seen, its actually quite boring. I don’t mind a slow pace to a storyline, but the show should give me something interesting to watch in the meantime, and this poor man’s version of The Social Network just isn’t going to cut it.

It’s just silly to listen to Will, Chad and Sonny talk about their website idea like it’s something revolutionary when we all know of popular websites that perform the same functions. All these young actors, while not the best performers, play likable and appealing characters. And the show needs to work harder at putting them in an interesting and compelling storyline.

Is Sonny picking up on something that no one else seems to?

I also think its ridiculous that it wouldnt occur to Abby or Gabi, both smart young women, that Will might be gay. I’m going to give Gabi the benefit of the doubt given that she’s so close to the situation, though I think Gabi does know and simply doesn’t want to admit it to herself. However, Abby is another story.

Let’s face it, it is strange that a teenage boy would avoid sex with his girlfriend. And since Abby is very close to her gay cousin Sonny, you’d think it might at least be a passing thought. But no, the show is clearly having them not even entertain the idea so they can be ‘shocked’ later.

And BTW, Im still not seeing anything resembling chemistry between Will and Sonny. No, they aren’t romantically involved in any way, but they are sharing scenes and we should see something between them at this point. To me, it’s a bad sign that we aren’t. You either have chemistry or you don’t, and I’m starting to think these boys don’t.
