"Revenge" SnapCap: To The Batcave!

Coincidentally, just enough for a full TV season!

Previously on Reven8e:

"DADDDDDY! When I was a child my father was framed for a crime he didn't commit. Amanda Clarke no longer exists. Before he died he left a roadmap for Reven8e that led me to the people who destroyed our lives." "Why are you so interested in this woman?" "Because she's interested in my son." "Stay away (gut punch) from Charlotte (nut kick)!" "Why did you bring him back here?" "It's nice to see you again." "Dad!" "I want you to start following her. Something isn't right here."

Okay, now that we're caught up, we can move on to Episode Three, which features new layers to the show's villainess and the introduction of a gay, possibly gay, who the hell knows new character.

After three episodes, it's become more clear who these people are, so let's take an updated look.

Gabriel Mann, Ashley Madekwe, Nick Wechsler, Emily Van Camp, Josh Bowman,
Connor Paolo, Christa B. Allen, Madeleine Stowe, Henry Czerny

Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp): It's now obvious who Amanda/Emily really is ... Bruce Wayne. She's trying to seek justice while utilizing a seemingly unending flow of cash and resources. In this week's episode, her focus is on taking down the Senator who prosecuted her father all those years ago. How does she accomplish this? By filming his dalliances with a mistress. And how does she accomplish this? By buying the building the mistress lives in, and having cameras installed during the renovation. Wow, that sure beats a flaming bag of dog crap on the doorstep. I'm actually starting to like Emily VanCamp in the role. She has that adorable little Drew Barrymore lisp that, like Drew, masks an insanity that could manifest itself at any moment in horrific ways.

Nolan Ross (Gabriel Mann): If Emily is Bruce Wayne, then Nolan is her Alfred. Part sidekick, part enabler, and keeper of the Thorne secrets. Unfortunately, we still don't know if that's his only role, or if there's more to him. He tries to help Declan out, but what is his motive? Is he just Richie Rich, trying to buy friends to fill his empty soul? I think Nolan is the character with the most potential, but so far he's sketchy at best.

Jack Porter (Nick Wechsler): Still the Blue Collar Guy With A Labradorâ„¢, Jack now has a Touch Of Extra Nobilityâ„¢, as his dad died from the heart attack he suffered last week, and Jack is now in charge of the bar and his errant brother.

Declan Porter (Connor Paolo): Still the weak link in this group, it always seems as though he wandered over from the set of MTV's Hampton Shore. He deals with his father's death by calling him a a loser and refusing to help spread his ashes. Nolan helps him to spy on rival Adam using Adam's webcam (is it really that easy to do?). Redeems himself a bit at the end by not showing Charlotte the sex tape he made of Adam and another girl.

Daniel Grayson (Josh Bowman): His big backstory secret was revealed, as he confesses to Emily that last summer he was dating a cocktail waitress, and broke her spine when he drove drunk with her trying to escape his mother's meddling. Emily convinces him to visit her in rehab, despite Victoria's express wishes.

Dick Grayson: Daniel's little brother. Likes to wear tights. Okay, he doesn't actually exist, but think how cool my Batman analogy would be if there was actually a character named Dick Grayson!

Charlotte Grayson (Christa Allen): Has had about ten minutes of screen time in three episodes.

Ashley Davenport (Ashley Madekwe): Her role so far seems to consist of fretting about place cards.

Victoria Grayson (Madeleine Stowe): The best part about this show, especially last night's episode, where new layers were revealed, and we found out that Queen Victoria was much more complicated than we thought. It turns out that she was not the puppet master of David Clarke's demise, and actually tried to confess to the prosecutor to get him released. She was in love with Emily's dad, but ... something ... happened to turn her into the paranoid, bitter woman she is today. Easily the most fascinating character.

Conrad Grayson (Henry Czerny): Behind his bland persona, it's clear that Conrad is the real villain here. I have a feeling we're going to see new and monstrous sides to his personalty coming up.

Ripley? Believe it or not.

AFTERELTON BAIT: So we were promised a Talented Mr. Ripley type character, and we got Ashton Holmes as Daniels' slime-oozing college roommate Tyler. He only appeared briefly, and used those moments to put the moves on Ashley, so he's a huge question mark right now. I have a feeling he's not going to be gay per se, but rather a character who will do anything (or anyone) to get what he wants. Too soon to tell.

DRAMA: Really heating up, thanks to Victoria's new dimensions, the introduction of Tyler, and the possible triangle between Emily/Jack/Daniel.

PRODUCTION VALUES/ACTING:: Madeleine Stowe continues to knock it out of the park with her steely vulnerability, and Ashton Holmes is hopefully trying to play sleazy, because he's very good at it.

So what did you think of Episode Three?
