"Project Runway" Snapcap: It's A Bird Challenge! Which Designers Love a Cockatoo?

"That idiot better not even think about using a Cockatoo joke here."

Last night's Project Runway was for the birds fowl a bore, I think due to the absence of Anthony Ryan and the general dullness of the designs.

Let's a look at how the show ranked, and I promise ... no more bird puns.

At gunpoint

BEEFCAKE: None. And I'm tired of looking at Josh's shirts unbuttoned to the waist. Who is he, Jack Tripper?

DRAMA: This week's drama was all about Kim, which was nice to see for a change. While everyone else has had their "moments," Kim has been off to the side observing, and at various time, eye-rolling.

But this was her show, and she made it a fun one, and made sure to include such favorites as "accidentally staining the design," "accidentally burning the design," "slicing finger with cursed sewing machine," and the perennial number one - "running to the ladies room and crying." By the time Tim comes around, she looks utterly defeated. So what are the odds she's actually going home?

AFTERELTON BAIT: After today, for the first time, the straight girls outnumber the gay guys.

CHALLENGES: When there are an even number of designers left, the chances are pretty good they'll be given a team challenge, and the six designers left were, in fact, paired up, but there was a twist. Each team of two would not be competing against the other pairs, but they'd be competing against each other.

The designers have to use birds as their inspiration for a high fashion runway look, and are split into Team cockatoo (Viktor and Kim), Team raven (Anya and Laura), and team parrot (Bert and Josh).

Of course, they would never say it out loud, but you just know that Viktor and Anya were doing an internal happy dance for being paired up with Kim and Laura.

The winner will not only receive a spread in Marie Claire, but also a $20,000 dollar cash bonus, which seems especially important to Josh, who's swimming in debt (he's so bad off, in fact, he's had to sell off all of his shirt buttons).

In a hilarious twist-in-a-twist, Tim comes in halfway through the competition and tells the designers that they actually have to make two designs, which sends everyone into a tizzy, but at the last minute he returns and says, "By the way, only one of your designs will be going down the runway." I think Tim just likes f**king with people.

"We don't need another hero!"

Kim is convinced that she's going to lose, and scraps everything and starts from scratch, designing a breast-focused Grecian thing, and from the way the entire show had focused on her, I was sure she was going to end up winning, especially after the judges found out she designed it in THREE HOURS! I'm sure if she had only been sewing for FOUR MONTHS, she would have had it clinched.

Surprisingly, she doesn't win, but she does score higher than her team rival Viktor, which I was happy to see (Viktor has been acting very cocky and arrogant the last few challenges).

The winner was Anya (again) for her raven-inspired ... thing. The first thing I thought when I saw it was "Bride Of Road Warrior."

Josh is pissed, because he doesn't think Anya should be winning for designs that have to be cut off the models afterward, but more importantly, because he really wanted that money.

As expected, Bert is given the boot for his ... okay, I don't know what the hell Burt designed, but it certainly wasn't inspired by a bird, unless it was a subliminal finger to the judges.

TRAINWRECK QUOTIENT: Aside from Kim's meltdown, and La Cucaracha dance on seeing a bug, there wasn't much this week.

However ... if you watched the new follow-up After The Runway, that's where the train derailed, with Josh defending himself from all the bloggers who've mocked him, especially guest star Laura Bennett, who calls him out on his behavior. His response boils down to, "Well, you're twice as old as me." Oh Josh.

Below you can see Bert's exit vid, and you can see all the designs on the following page. What did you think of this week's episode?
