Project Runway Episode 402 Recap: "I Started Crying"Everyone worked in teams: Marion with Steven (who he said he chose because he was very calm, I’m sure it had nothing to do with his total cuteness factor); Ricky picked Jack, he didn’t say why, but again, hello. Have you seen Jack? When dykes start noticing you’re a cute guy, you’re a cute guy.
Christian teamed up with Carmen, and she should have been more of a stabilizing influence on him. I think he sucked her in with his brash self-confidence. Note to Carmen: The next time Tim Gunn says one thing and a 21-year-old guy says another, listen to Tim. Victorya worked with lone hetero guy, Kevin. I may possibly be imagining it, but he seemed a little cool to her. Considering he rode to victory on her coattails, he should get over that. Kit worked with Chris, and their outfit turned out beautifully, and their model was adorable in her black beret. They’re both worth keeping an eye on. Rami, who has mainstream designer credentials, chose Jillian, who works for Ralph Lauren. They’re both serious about their careers, and obviously extremely capable, but I think the combination proved deadly dull. Poor Sweet P, she looked like she was going to cry or possibly have an embarrassing digestive incident when Elisa tagged her for her team. In case we failed to properly interpret her grimace of loathing, her voiceover informed us of her horror at the prospect of working with this season’s weirdest contestant.
Now, it’s probably clear that I don’t much like Elisa of the seemingly studied eccentricity. But if I had to work with her, I’d have put the best possible face on it I could. After all, no one will ever look back on this project and say, “Yeah, that Sweet P is a good designer, but you know, she was just too professional in her working relationship with Elisa when she was on Project Runway. She just did too damn good of a job.” Even when it seemed the outfit was turning out pretty well, and Elisa had decided to take advice from both Tim Gunn and her teammate, Sweet P seemed more concerned with distancing herself from Elisa’s weirdness than wholeheartedly supporting their effort and making the best possible garment. Now, that might be a false impression created by editing, because there really hasn’t been much interpersonal drama yet this season. Given that this outfit was much better received and did seem to work — unlike Elisa’s first one — perhaps Sweet P really did take that approach. But even her praise of the outfit was of the “I’m so amazed that it turned out well” variety, rather than quiet, calm professionalism. I mean, she should leave the evisceration of Elisa to the critics. It’s our job.

I Totally Agree, Christie!!!
. . .somebody should have given Christian a 'V-8 Juice' head-smack and said "Listen to Tim, damn it!"
His attitude is gonna fry him if he doesn't wise up quick!
Personally, I'm keeping an eye out on Rami, but Elisa could wind up being the winner.
She (like Jeffrey from last season) seems as crazy like a fox!
Been there, done that, bought the soundtrack!
Heehee
My favourites right now are Kit and Elisa. I love Elisa, eccentricity and all (Seriously, raise your hand if nobody has ever called YOU eccentric. That's what I thought.). And Kit's badass, and her designs are amazing; she has deserved top 2 both weeks.
Also, about Ricky's crying: Keep in mind they inteview these contestants for a WHILE, it's entirely possible they get Ricky worked up and then show the footage of him crying out off all the footage hey have of him. Reality tv isn't completely unscripted, y'know (that's not to say these are acted characters, but the editors portray whatever they want based on the footage in front of them).
Bitten Bust
I like seeing the personal interaction and interviews with the designers. The producers do an amazing job in portraying everyone.
Ricky probably was raised in an area where no one accomplished anything and very little was expected of anyone. Now he is surrounded by accomplished people and he is overwhelmed.
I like Elisa a little more and Christian a little less after this episode. I felt Elisa rolled with the mocking very well. Christian did not listen to Tim. Has he not watched this show before? When his model opened the jacket I felt I was transported back to 1983.
Chris is working his way to being fan favorite this year.
I know what you mean Christie about Rami’s outfit. Every time I try to remember what it looked like I can’t. It’s completely forgettable.
Sweet P is my favorite female designer so far in the competition. The way she handled working with Elisa is priceless.Victorya’s dress was the only one that could win. It fit right in with the Bitten line. The designers always under perform when they have to work with a celebrity.
Fashion ( ______ )
With regards to Christian's design, I think the judges were talking about how it was "Fashion 80's" and not "The 80's" per se... and I'm sure we can all appreciate the implicit differences that lie between a "Fashion _____ " and "The _____ ".
It was, like SJP said, a very severe design; not to mention heavily retro and not "Fashion 2007" enough which yes, Tim Gunn did warn him about - but Christian chose to ignore Tim's advice and follow his own instincts to a Top Two finish in the first episode, so we can't really blame him for choosing to follow his own instincts to a Bottom Two finish here. Ultimately it wasn't a bad design, the model's cigarettes-&-Evian-diet revelation-paunch notwithstanding... it was probably just never meant to be part of the Fall/Winter line for Bitten.
As for Marion's creation, I was vaguely annoyed that the giant poncho overshadowed the skirt because from I could see the skirt looked adorable. I wish Marion and Steven had stood up for that (or if they had I wish the editors had shown this), but ultimately a lot of Project Runway and the fashion world in general has to do with having the brashness to stand behind your design in the face of criticism and emphasize all its good points even as you're being shot down. Christian showed himself capable of doing just that; from what we saw, Marion didn't.
Overall, this season is shaping up to be an intriguing one. Even the resident crazy appears to be a lot more talented than the resident crazies of Season Three. While we could almost always rely on Angela (bubble-skirt after bubble-skirt) or Vincent (garbage-dress model couldn't even walk in; French couch couture) to produce trainwreck after trainwreck and mysteriously survive each elimination, Elisa seems truly and wildly unpredictable - which can only be a good thing.
Tim Gunn: Informant?
I am starting to wondering if Tim reports back to the judges or the producers, because his critiques seem to come up during judging.
Ricky and his crying. I have starting a cry tally on my Project Runway 4 recap for him.
