"The Secret Life of the American Teenager" Hey, Ready Or Not, You're Gay!

Peter brings a date to his date.

Last week on The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Griffin met Peter on a blind date. But Peter wasn’t out, even if his parents were the ones setting him up on blind dates with boys. This week, we’re having an end of the school year party at Ben’s house, complete with hunky cater waiters passing hamburgers around like hors d’oeuvres. Griffin has invited Peter to the party, and is meeting him there.

I'll take the waiter with a side of Griffin.

Peter does show up, but he brings a date to his date. Technically she's a beard, but that's all right as Haley seems more interested in meeting Ben, the rich heir to a sausage fortune, than being the “date” that Peter insists she is. Griffin is careful to respect the situation when Haley is around, but he’s no doormat when she leaves.

In a weird twist of priorities on this series, the theme of the episode is intimacy, not sex. Which appears to be the reason is show is giving us our first on screen gay date. No boy-boy nookie to make anyone uncomfortable. But at least the straight kids are making plans for platonic boy-girl sleepovers, so the gays aren't completely singled out for special treatment.

If only the straight kids had taken this tactic two years ago, we wouldn’t have two teenage moms. Or a show.
