"Supernatural" Recap 7.03: "The Story of Amy Pond"

Jensen Ackles directed this week’s sci-fi reunion with Firefly’s Jewel Staite dropping by as a brain-eating Amy Pond, Sam’s first demon girlfriend. And no, despite the character name this isn't a Doctor Who crossover. Although how cool would that have been?

Instead, this week’s Supernatural episode is essentially filler, just something to look at until Dean’s big trial next week.

Escape from Guantanamo Bay

Okay, it wasn’t really Guantanamo Bay, but Sioux Falls General Hospital where thebrothers were taken last week is still crawling with Leviathans out to kill them. With Sam unconscious and Dean’s leg broken, they are practically heavily medicated sitting ducks. Fortunately, Bobby scoops in like a guardian angel (no pun intended), steals an ambulance and whisks them away to safety.

Lars and Lemmy

Cut to three weeks later in Montana. The boys are going under assumed names. "Lemmy Kilmister" (Sam) is still dealing with the sudden disappearance of Lucifer, and "Lars Ulrich" (Dean) is worried that he's going soft – no Impala, no booze and his usual porn is replaced by Spanish soap operas. But before Dean can turn into a Mexican housewife, Bobby returns with the Metallica… er, Metallicar, and Dean cheers up considerably.

That night, a semi-delusional Sam steals the Impala and goes off in pursuit of the Ice Truck Pick Killer, a fiend who mutilates bodies and only seems to prey upon criminals.

No, this isn't a Dexter cross-over episode, either. Although again, how cool would that be?

Dean wakes up the next morning and finds his "Beautiful Mind brother" missing, along with the love of his life (i.e. the Impala). He saws off his leg cast and hurries after them. He eventually catches both in a motel somewhere and, after a few punches, Sam tells Dean the story of Amy Pond.

Legend of Amy Pond

Once upon a time, long before Sam was a very hot hunter, he was a very cute geek who helped his family by studying myths and legends at the local library. One day, when his dad, John, and Dean were out tracking 'Ketsuni', a brain-eating demon, he met a shy girl, by the name of Amy.

After gallantly saving the damsel in distress, the young Dean took her home, where he was richly rewarded with his First Kiss.

Their romance was short-lived, as Amy’s wicked mother, the Ketsuni, crashed the scene, followed by Sam’s family (another budding Romeo and Juliet bite dust). When the evil witch mother tried to eat Sam, Amy stepped in and stabbed her through the heart, saving his life. So, Sam helped her escape and hid her existence from his family.
