Oscar Bait: A Few Words on this Year's Telecast

Photo perfectly sums up host Will Pulos' Oscar viewing experience.

From Will...

So this year’s Oscars ceremony was kind of rough, right? It’s too bad that with a year full of so many amazing performances, that the telecast didn’t quite live up to them… It’s also too bad that anyone anywhere had to watch any of this show without at least 3 Blackout Swantinis. (I’m guessing…)

I’m not gonna lie, I found it very upsetting that James Franco and Anne Hathaway didn’t make better hosts. How can two such beautiful people have such little chemistry? Let’s be honest, the hottest moment at the Kodak theater last night was when those fake flames were projected on a scrim while the orchestra played “Tara’s Theme.” I mean, other than Iain Canning obviously. Actually I’m pretty sure “Tara’s Theme” was originally written to score Iain Canning’s face.

But even though this year’s show may have been a bit of a bust, with predictable winners and a draggy mid-section, the Oscars are always a bit silly. There were plenty of redeemable moments too like P.S. 22’s performance, Cate Blanchett, Melissa Leo Leo’ing out to the max, and Florence Welch COMMUNICATING with that song from 127 Hours.

So check out the Oscar Bait recap below and see why 2011 really was The Year of the Oscar Bait. And remember everybody, treat every envelope from Staples like it’s an Academy Award envelope from Staples.
