Chaz Just Wants to Dance

Chaz Bono doesn't quite understand all the fuss over his being on Dancing With the Stars. After all, people who don't have gender dysphoria aren't exactly going to catch it by watching him dance.

Meanwhile, Chaz tells GMA's George Stephanopoulos that as a kid seeing someone transgender on TV would have made "all the difference in the world" in his life. I guess that "difference" is what the American Family Association is up in arms about. Would seeing Chaz on DWTS make it more likely for gender dysphoric kids to come out as such at an earlier age? Probably.

The sane among us can agree that's a good thing, but I guess you can see how it would be threatening to a group like the AFA which wants to pretend that innate gender dysphoria doesn't exist.

This video clip of Chaz's stop by GMA is a neat summary of the "controversy" so far. Interviewer Stephanopoulosis is mostly respectful, but his question about why Cher is suddenly supportive has to rank near the top of all the boneheaded questions we've ever heard him ask.
